TRS Banner Across North America 2012 - Alaska to Key West Florida (OFFICIAL)

Tires on those planes always looked cartoonish to me. Makes me laugh whenever I see them. I keep thinking of like Sylvester the cat over inflating a tire because he was distracted or something.....LOL

Maybe you'd like to see what they are for....

I know what you mean though. I always call them "Micky Mouse tires".

You guys make it look easy.....R U KRAY-Z?????

annnnd another thang......I'm amazed at the extra power required to lug those monsters around thru the sky....imagine the equivelant tire size on a 2WD RBV daily driver---you'd need a step ladder to get into the cab/and an extra 4 cylinders to get it rolling....

That vid is intense! I wanna fly THAT for a living.

Richard

I have to help the GF in and out of the plane. I'm on 31" tires. They make 35's! I have a buddy with 35's AND extended gear. You need a ladder to get in and out!!

Costs about 10kts of airspeed Gunner. It is a diminishing return on power. The faster you go, the more resistance they generate and the more power it requires to push them along.

So, what is your itenerary Mike? What is your ETA in Tok? Planning to spend the night there or doing a quick turnaround? Camping or hotel room? PM me your cell number so we can stay in contact.

My plan is to head out from Whse. Saturday morning at 10. That will get us into Tok late that night. We are planning to spend most if not all of Sunday there, depending on whether we decide to take the 'Top of The World" highway back or not. But most likely we will stay and head out on Monday morning. Giving us a really wide window of opportunity.

We'll be driving a Kona Blue Edge with a Yukon "R" rental plate on it. It's a dead ringer for this:

We'll probably go and grab a room somewhere. We're more concerned with just getting there as of right now. I'm currently driving the Edge just to make sure all is well.

This is three men, two countries and one mission... bring it.:icon_thumby:

We're ready, vehicles got a fresh oil change and new air filter. That's about our "pre-flight" maintenance. :icon_welder:

With a one day window, neither crew needs to be in a rush of any sort. We'll get this chunk of travel done. Bet this is equivalent to a lot of those lower 48:headbang:

Costs about 10kts of airspeed Gunner. I'da thought more than that!

After watching the "rock landings"---I really appreciate those tires...that poor little tail wheel really took a beating!

Atta boy M.M. you can doit!

Weather looks iffy for flying. Right now, Tehetna pass has only been open for the last hour today and if we can't get past that, we can't fly. Gulkana has blue sky showing at the moment (ain't weather cams awesome)... Tok is low overcast but flyable. I do have the GF's car lined up if we have to drive it but that makes the trip a 13 hour dive rather than a 5 hour flight... We'll get it there one way or another though.

Here's hoping for clear skies and smooth roads.

crb......be careful...no punchin holes in clouds!

Rain, hours upon hours of constant rain. We'll still drive in it no problem but I'd really like to see this clear up.

I'd like to have a personal chef...

Though I suppose I will suffice with the banner getting onto Canadian soil!

Wouldn't it be a damned thing if the banner got refused, or seized or some messed up situation, at the border?

Sent from somewhere naughty!

crb......................................... :icon_rofl:

weezl.................................... :icon_surprised:

(or...did I get those backwards?)

Still raining, still all good to go. I'll give you a shout in the morning Jeff.

Sunny here... At the moment. Just finalized the plan with Lima and should be wheels up at about 1000 tomorrow +/-. Still depends on the weather. Forecast continues to be iffy with 60% chance of rain/thunderstorms in the Tok area. Cross your fingers and hope the pass is open tomorrow! I really don't want to drive but I will if I have to!
