TRS Event TRS 25th Anniversary Fall Adventure - Land Between The Lakes - September 5th – 8th, 2024

Gas station
I remember when the only food you could buy at a gas station came out of these.

I've seen a couple of those machines here. Even one of these.

I could make you a Casey's pizza if you'd like.

All I have to do is lower my standards by about 50%

Just no walking black olives please...

For those just tuning in, campfire pizza is awesome. I was in on starting it and various factions of my convoy help make it.

It's just been a dry spell for irritating Gump lately... which is the kind of comradery campfire pizza promotes. :icon_twisted:

So I’m recovering from the 1250 miles in 4 days in the Road Ranger w/step trailer (loud exhausts, mostly hammer down, with the curious swerving into my lane to get a better look, for a dozen/14/15 hours. I survived, but arrived home shaky.

I immediately dove into the to do
List for the Missing Linc for the 25th. When I’m working out there, I have a $10 ancient three CD player that I keep going constantly for inspiration. I play and immerse myself in Carrie, Glenn Miller, Beach boys, navy band, you name it. I keep three going, and when, Bennie Goodman, you name it! If I get tired of one, I swap it out and start it off again.

Well, Without thinking I put in Saturday night fever, Willie Nelson, and Lady Gaga and then Glenn Millar. I went into spasms with the combination, and fortunately the neighbor came over and stabilized me before the ambulance. The police gave me the warning out about mixing such genres even when no alcohol was involved.

I rested most of today. I’ll be more careful about my selections tomorrow when I prepare the truck.

I saw this tonight on Instagram and my instant reaction was "This is so wrong".

I've gone camping and cooked over a fire I made from wood I found laying around. I've used charcoal and even a Coleman stove. Next thing you know, people will bringing microwaves.

Ridiculous!

I don't understand why everyone thinks hey need all this electrical stuff for camping. I can see the refrigerator/ freezer units eliminating the need to find ice rvery few days. And charging a phone and some camera batteries, maybe even run a computer occasionally on long trips so you can transfer files off camera cards. But I have seen people doing electric coffee makers, all kinds of lights, A/C units, pumps for showers, etc. That's a lot of unnecessary weight to carry and that stuff takes a lot more space. Many will tell you that overlanding is about being self-sufficient for extended periods. But a lot of this stuff is what I call glamping. I'm sure some are really overloading their vehicles without modifying suspension.

To each his own, I guess. I don't have the money for all that. Plus I'm lazy. I don't want more stuff to unpack and repack at every campsite. If it doesn't fit in a single cab Ranger, you probably don't need it.

So when I show up with my solar power generator... flat screen TV... and toaster... you guys don't want to watch cartoons while I toast a bunch of Pop Tarts for breakfast?

Seriously... the hot plate is a bit much. But I'd sure like to have one of those solar generators.

It better be Bugs Bunny. Family guy may also be acceptable.

You do whatever you want. I won't interfere. @Robertmangrum.rm has a nice setup. I love it. I wouldn't want any more than that. I just can't wrap my head around how to get all that on my truck. I could put a battery under my bed. And maybe the inverter, too. But I would worry about water crossings getting it all wet.

It all starts with a 12volt cooler...

But the thought of not having to buy ice and cooler water intrusion into my food items was just to big to ignore.

How about a small trailer to tow behind your truck or trailer to carry the appliance repair man just in case?

Oh, i carry repair parts too, haha. I think my inverter is too small for a microwave. But I can dang sure toast some pop tarts and watch cartoons, haha.
