TRS Event TRS 2023 Fall Adventure - Land Between The Lakes

Are there any trails for my stock (it's not) FJ to embarrass Rangers on or do I just drag in the RV? Looks like lots of hikes and thing my wife would enjoy, so maybe she will come with me for a change. I like this plan.
There are several trails for stock vehicles there. I have a good friend that visits there often in a CRV on 31s. But if the FJ gets stuck I have a winch we can pull you out with hahaha. But the Forest service roads are numbered. The 100s are the easiest, 200s are moderate and 300s are more difficult. Then there are paved roads for Toyota guys haha

I labeled this as an adventure. It doesn't just have to be about us riding around in our trucks.

I think Justin is hoping to take Oliver to a living history farm which he will eat up.
More important matters — when is pizza night???? I’m hoping to make some pizza dough for maybe pan/stuffed crust or maybe even breadsticks??…

Maybe we need to fire up the Coleman ovens at breakfast and make monkey bread.

Word has come down that extra days and training that isn't mission critical has been cancelled. So, it looks like the door is opening up for attendance both for this event and the Carlisle one.

I'm not making any plans and definitely don't put me on the list, but will be following. In the past I couldn't have gone, never had enough leave, but with the new position my leave balance is looking a lot better. If not this year, possibly in the next year or two. It's also a lot closer than the usual places, so much beter chance tyo make it. Only a 6.5 hour drive vs the 10.5 hours to Indiana.

Unfortunately my new position is a training position with formal classes and I'm a part time college student as well. Training classes aren't scheduled until about a month before they happen, and I have no idea what school is going to look like yet. Those have to come first.

Any more of an itenerary or details on camping locations you'll be using.

So about these trail areas. Are they something that one could tackle on a stock Honda Rancher 420? I've got a few 4x4s, but no offroad rig that can make the drive. The closest thing to being able to handle the trails would be the F-100, but it certainly isn't going. The F-250 is stock and not equipped for that, and the ranger might actually be even closer to the ground by then. NBot sure which of the later two I'd drive, but the ATV should fit in the bed of either.

I'm going to try and show to the Ford Nationals with my brother. Will probably bring both rangers if his can be driven there. Would probably only be able to do one day since he doesn't have anyone to watch his dog if he's gone overnight.

Bring the dog.

As you drive down, take a detour to Lerna IL (close to Mattoon /Charleston) and visit the Lincoln Log cabin state park. It is Abraham Lincolns boyhood home with a replica of his parents cabin that he grew up on. The original was lost... yes lost lol. It is a working farm from the early 1800s. Lot of other Lincoln stuff nearby, including the graves of his parents, the Moore house, and if you go into Charleston you can go to the fairgrounds where one of the Lincoln/ Douglas debates were held.

Heck I could probably meet you guys in Mattoon and show you around, I grew up in that area

AJ

Unfortunately, not this dog. The most Hyper dog I've ever seen. Full grown men have a hard time walking him, and he's only 90lbs or so.

Current route planning barely has us into Illinois at all. I want to do the Lincoln thing someday though but it is a long ways out of the way for this trip.

The old farm thing I thought would be neat is at the southern end of LBTL.

I hope there will be a CRV to pull me out if I get in trouble. Or I can kick it under a tire for traction.

I'm trying to get him to come. But he said he didn't want to be recovering Toyotas all day 🤣🤣
