Treadwrights came in

I'm not worried about them at all.. Ive seen to many guys dd them and wheel with them. I understand stray had a bad issue with turned him off; but I can't judge something by one or 2 mishaps. Yes, yours was a BIG one. But still only one. If I judged like that; I would own a chevy, ford, dodge, Honda, Toyota, well.... If probably be walking barefoot (since I'd judge shoes same way).

Yes I'm going extreme side of things; I understand it was a big deal that it happened to your niece. Regardless, we can't judge by one set.

Some people put price over safety every time. I'm glad she was OK but I always think of safety first, even if it costs 50% more.
My nephew bought a set of Primewell tires (Made in China) for his Focus. I took his car to BJ's Wholesale and bought him a set of Michelin Harmonys.
Paying a cheap price for tires won't mean a thing if you have a blowout at 75 mph and a Fully Loaded dump truck runs over you!

I got 50k out of a set of Widetrack Baja's, at the time about half the town was riding around on them. They were made by Primewell, if I could still get them I would eagerly get another set. IMO they were very good tires.

We went through three sets of Firestones that kept getting funny bumps in them, went to goodyear and somehow within two years all four of them dryrotted in a 8" patch around the valvestem. The first three sets of Firestones were the same make/model the car ('94 Explorer) came with, the Goodyear Wrangler RT/S are a very common tire. It ended up on Firestone Destination LE's for the rest of its time with us out of spite because they wouldn't warrenty the Goodyears. Point being... name brands have problems too.

However if something bad happens on that one set it is hard to blame somebody for swearing off the brand. If I had a Goodyear blow out and roll my (hypothetical) '71 Hemicuda convertable and kill my family... it would be mighty hard to go back to Goodyear for another set of tires.

What did you pay for them? I just got a set of 33x12.5x15 BFG KO tires for my little sisters Jeep last month. I have a friend whose dad is a tire dealer and he got me the tires for $138 each. Total with mounting and balancing was $660. I thought that that was a good deal for brand bew tires. When I bought my last set for my Ranger the same tires then were $128 each. So they cost me $10 more now a tire. My buddy said that tires prices are going to start going way up now that oil cost has gone sky high!! I bet that the tires I just got at his cost will be about $160 or more a tire at his cost. Darn!!!!

They were $417 shipped to my door. They got mounted and balanced free at the body shop the car was at.

That's a damn good deal on those tires. The Van these tires were going on needs load range E tire. BFG all terrains in the size i needed would have been $199 a tire. We got the retreads for $86 a tire. The factory replacement tire (which suck), were $141 from tire rack.

Yea, something like that incident turned me off the retreads. They were very nice looking tires. I just thought real hard and said...'I am gonna look around and find another set of tires and get the best price for them'. We can't control our destiny but we can be safe along the way. As long as you take care of what you have it will last and keep you safe. Just keep an eye out on the tread wear and if you see something unusual on a tire or take it right away to a tire shop. Treads can seperate on a retread and they can also seperate on a new tire. I have seen this before on my buddies new Mustang he bought last year. 5,000 miles and a right front tire seperated in the middle when his wife was on I75 north at 75 mph. She was ok...not the tire. The outer part of the tire was still on the rim. She saw the middle section pass her as she was slowing down due to the shutter she felt. The Ford dealer got her a new tire when it got towed in.

And here is pic of the retreads on my B2, the tread pattern on the vans tires are a lot more aggressive than the ones on my B2
