I see in this website, that the 3.0L engine will not mate up to any transmission except those that came from a 3.0L engine. In other words, a 4.0L, 2.9L or 2.3L engine's transmission will not mate to the 3.0L engine due to a unique bolt pattern on the engine. Yet, a A4LD transmission can be installed behind each of the previously listed engines.
Is there a way to determine if a transmission laying on some garage floor will bolt up to the 3.0L engine short of trying it?
My situation is I'm robbing an A4LD from one truck and putting it in the one I'm trying to keep going. The donor truck hit a deer, and the damage is not significant enought to trash the truck given the overall condition of the rest of the truck. I would like to go ahead and convert to a 5 speed for my use. So, unless I find a transmission that is actually connected to a 3.0L, I do not know if it is the right one.
