on cold days i have a whining sound. if i press the clutch in about 1/8" the whine goes away and returns when releasing the clutch. it warmed up for several days and it went away. and now its back. what could this be?

Have you checked the Fluid?

i woulde say it is a good posability that your throwout bearing is going out. or the factory greese in it has gotten stiff and not lubricating it properly.

If it goes away when pushing the clutch In, disengaging the tranny, then it looks like it leads to a bearing in the tranny, or maybe just low fluid. If the noise appeared when pushing in the clutch, it would be the throwout bearing/clutch

not nesesarily i have seen many throwout bearings make noise with the clutch released. just put the slightest pressure on the pedal and the noise goes away.

Every bad throw-out bearing I have seen made noise when the clutch was released, and quites down when the clutch gets depressed.

It does kind of sound like a throwout bearing to me. Only thing is, is that I don't know if cold would effect the bearing, maybe as Baddis said, the grease got cold and quite lubricating.

Ya never know, I've only seen throwouts noisy when clutch is disengaged, hopefully the OP will find the noise...

I agree, throwout bearing. I squeak and creak and make noises when I'm cold too...

i havnt heard the noise since it was cold last time. mild temps here in houston. i checked the trans fluid today ( manual ) and it was full but it was pretty dark. almost like oil after an oil change. seems pretty easy to change out trans fluid. so when i am draining it, will the majority drain or should i measure how much comes out so that i can fill with the same amount?
