my 5spd in my 97 ranger w/3.0 grinds when I downshift into 3rd gear only. If I pause for a second and push a little pressure on the shifter before I shift into 3rd it doen't do it. I think it may be the syncros. It's been like this for over 30K miles. how long will it lastlike this? Would it be better if I changed fluid and added lucas or something to help?

on mine i have to tap the gas pedal to rev the motor a little between 5-4 and 3-2 downshifts. will downshift from 4-3 just fine, but ive been in the habit of doing that so it usually gets done all the time anyways. no additive will help. could be the syncros, may as well live with it until it compltly croaks. changing the fluid wont hurt anything but probly wont solve the problem either.
