My 87 ranger with the fm145 tranny makes noise in nuetral with cluth out and in all gears except 4th, It still shifts and drives just fine just makes a heck of alot of noise. My question is this more likely gears worn and damaged or bearings going bad like the input bearing. I drained the gear oil and there was alot of metal powder almost like brake dust in it but no big chunks. Just thought I would pick yalls brains to see what ya thought Thanks

My bet is tranny.

Kinda what I was thinking. Not good news. How much do used 145s usually range?

your noise is the bearing between the input and main shaft

i that something that can be replaced without rebuilding the whole tranny
