transmission crossmember swap

I have a 1988 B 2 which needs a new crossmember support.I have one from a 1984 but it's a frame to frame.Has anyone done a swap out like this.Ford wants $140.00 for one.

Toss the early crossmember, it is useless because they tupically go
OVER the '83-85 style catalytic converter, it will not go over the
'86-87 or '88-94 cat.

The EASY crossmember to convert to is the crossmember from
a 1990-94 Explorer or 1990-97 4x4 Ranger.

IT goes UNDER the cat and OVER the front driveshaft
and uses the exsisting holes on the passenger side frame.
(the holes that the crossmember bracket retaining rivets now occupy)
And will require ONE new hole (1/2" dia) in the drivers side
frame rail lower flange.

I ran the early style crossmember on my 86 and had no issues. Cleared the cats just fine.
