trans swap

I need to know if I can put a 2 wheel drive trans in my 83. the trans came out of an 88 or so ranger with the same 4 banger. but is a 5 speed. can i use my transfer case in place of the 2 wheel drive tail cone

As long as you are swapping transmissions between trucks with the same engines it works... If you're trying to buy a 2wd transmission and bolt your t-case to that, no, it doesn't work that way... You need a 4wd transmission...
