Trans locks up

Hi,I have a 1986 Ranger 4x4 with a 2.9 and mitsu 5speed trans (FM145)which gets stuck between gears and locks up the trans.I have to remove the top of the trans and realign the shift rods and reassemble to get it driveable again,if I tighten up the detent ball and springs it is too hard to shift,Help!! thanks.http://www.therangerstation.com/forums/images/icons/icon8.gif
