Will shifter length provide any clue as to which trans will be in a '89 Ranger, 2.9?

Trans code could help, look on the VIN sticker and see what the code is in the trans box. Then look it up online or could have the decoder on the site, haven't looked.

Yeah, I could ID it if it were mine or viewable. I'm dealing with a seller online who dosen't seem to want to look under the vehicle. And is not near the vehicle for sale. Shifter length is all I have at this point from him.

Only if you pull the shift boot off. It's probably a FM146.

Well it is kind of wait and see. I've asked him to either look under the truck, for a removable pan, or get me the trans and axle codes.

If you can peek under the shift boot or even just get the shift knob off you can tell.

The Mazda trans has a BLACK shift lever.

Having enough trouble getting the "seller" to go look for codes. Doubt he'd actually take anything loose to look at something.
