tranny help

did you have to modify your frame rail at all to fit the t-case in? Cause I tried to fit a transfer case off a 85 Bronco with a 5.0ltr, and the t-case was so huge it would not come close to fitting even if I did modify the frame rail. So this 4406 T-case much be much smaller I assume, and does it bolt right up?

The only thing I did was to offset the engine slightly toward the passenger side about 3/8" by slotting and rewelding the engine mounting plates and trans x-member. That may not even be necessary in all cases - I know of two or three others using the 4406 that didn't bother doing that but it looked too close for comfort on mine. These were all later Rangers so yours might be a little different.

Like I said, the 4406 bolts directly to the Explorer's 4R70W AWD extension housing. The 4406 manual shift linkage from the 97~03 F150 bolts right up to same extension housing.

I haven't compared them side by side but I have been told that the 4406 is smaller than the BW13xx used in the 96-back F-series and full size Bronco.

Alright! thanks for your help rwenzing! Now just to find a t-case on craigslist or something.
