A brake controller would be nice but I don't have a current need for one. Especially if it's going to be $800 some bucks.

Agreed. Especially for the folks that have a truck with the factory "Tow Package"...

Just use surge brakes and quit yet bitchin'. They work better than electric brakes anyway.

That’s the plan for my utility trailer when do the suspension and hub upgrade on it. That way, I don’t have to worry about if the tow vehicle is equipped for electric brakes or not.

All I know is electric brakes are not friends with being 4 feet deep in salt water... not that any brakes are, but a quick freshwater hose rinse and hydraulic brakes are fine. Plus no adjusting, no wiring, they just freaking work. Like you said, any vehicle can tow a surge brake trailer. My boat and trailer are 7,800 pounds. I've towed it with things it should never be towed by but that thing stops great no matter what. My old s10 was actually rated to tow it somehow. My ranger is no where close (I've moved it but never towed it with the ranger), I use the shop truck when I take it to the marina now. Only thing you gotta do is remove the backup pin if your on a steep ramp in a small truck. The f450 doesnt care.
