Got an 83 2.0 with the TKY 4spd. Does anyone know the drive ratios on this transmission? I can't find them anywhere.

Also, what would be the easiest swap for a 5 spd? FM 132, FM 145, FM 146 or the TKY 5 spd?

My poor little motor needs all the gears it can get.

Thanks

the big issue with your truck is less likely to be lack of gears in the trans and more wiht the ratios in the rear axle.

Most 2.0 trucks had either 3.08's or at best 3.45 gears in their rear axle.

a set of 3.73's or even 4.10's would be "nice".

The only thing a 5sp would bring to the party is an overdrive
gear for 5th that you can't really make much use of.

Yeah, I've currently got 3.45s. And 3.73 or 4.10 would definitely help the bottom end. But I can barely keep up on the highway already. I'm afraid it would kill what little top end I have.

And I don't know what the drive ratios are on my 4 spd. I was just trying to see if any of these 5 spds could help me at both ends.

I drive my 4.0 on the highway in 4th all the time... You shouldn't have any problem, your truck would actually be happy running that high in the rpm range... I honestly use 5th maybe once a month... It's only useful for interstate driving, and I don't drive the interstate much...

the overdrive MIGHT be useful to you, but only after you swap axle gears.

Thanks for the input guys.

I've searched all over the net and cannot find the ratios for the TK4. But I'm betting the final drive ratio is 1.0 to 1.
