Hello, I managed to get 94MPH on my Ranger until I feel some sort of limiter kick in. It takes quite some time to reach 94MPH but when it does, it feels as something holds the truck back. I feel as if the engine cuts off then turns on back again. Does the fuel pump or the timing cuts off? By the way, I have a 5 speed.

If I gut out my cat, will I get better gas mileage? Has anyone tried this before. Also, will it trip the Check Engine Light because the final O2 sensor is reading false reading since it thinks the O2 is there?>

the truck has a speed limiter that cuts fuel at the injectors at around 92 MPH. your driving a pickup, not a sports car. your tires, wheel bearings, axle bearings, springs, steering, and many other parts are not designed to operate above, and therefore may fail if pushed beyond that speed.

nothing will be gained (mileage or power) by gutting the cat. furthermore, the empty cat body will act like a resonator and your truck will sound horrible. you will also trip a CEL.

On my 2000 XLT 3.0, FFV, extended cab step side w/ 87,000 miles, the limiter doesn't kick in until 112-114mph. On a really good hill on our local highway, I can get a bit above that using inertia if my acceleration is good, then coast above it, but can't for the life of me maintain it, especially since you have to go back up the other side. Then again, I'm also one of those guys who gets 13mpg out of his truck :icon_hornsup: Not that I do THAT often anymore, but it's nice to know what your truck can do / blow the carbon out :scare:

I took the cat-back off of my 99 and it sounded wonderful!!! Untill I hit the highway and then it would resonate, sounded boring, and was really too loud ( I had to yell at my passenger to talk to them.) I didn't notice any MPG gains but the hp picked up. I could burnout like crazy and actully topped it out at 94-95mph, which was awesome. But then I test drove a G35 and topped it out at 137mph and the Ranger just doesn't feel fast anymore.

9 times out of 10 a better flowing exhaust will hurt fuel mileage. well thats been my experience. more back pressure = less unburnt fuel dumping out the back?
edit --ohh this was a lil old.....

I got mine up to 110-114 once. That was my one and only speeding ticket. I don't know how fast the new engine will go though.... Won't be trying it. lol
And no, I didn't lose my license. Never had a speeding ticket before so they reduced it to failure to obey a traffic signal.

Wow. I wouldn't expect a 3.0 FF to break 100 ever. Even if dropped out of a plane...
