Tool boxes?

Size Does Matter: Jesse James first edition (limited run, the flame box is later and more common)
I think it is from MAC's Tech 100 series, not the highest end tool boxes but quite a bit nicer than the Kennedy series (traditional Red Craftsman boxes that were good, I think Proto and Snap-On once sourced from Kennedy also). I added a side box, peeled the name off the lower upper box, but it hasn't required anything.

And well, you know, sometimes it is the size of the tool that matters. :icon_rofl:

Once upon a time, Craftsman boxes were made by a company called Kennedy. They had some serious quality stuff. The roll-away I have is over 15 yrs old, and I like it. I'd upgrade to a bigger one, but space limitations in the basement shop rule that out.

Here's my rig:

That's interesting stray, I have that exact same box. Got it from my dad several years ago when I became a ford tech for a while. He apparently had it FOREVER before that and still looks basically as the same as new. Except for one drawer I buckled during a dumb moment.....

That ones pretty nice. It was a toss up between that one and the Master Series (that I wound up buying). Its a good thing I did get the master series, its a little bigger. This one may need to be up-sized next year sometime.

Harbor Freight has a BIG 5 drawer service cart for 199.99 that is good and those Kobalt boxes are really nice as well -But since this was a GIFT, I think it might be "too good" to use for anything except expensive tools that you don't want to risk hurting then climb on the tool truck and TAKE YOUR MEDICINE!

You guys got some cool stuff! I'm a service advisor (pen&phone)but I love tools -SOMEONE start a TOOLBOX THREAD!

Yeah my dad bought me the same toolbox I thing! Its pretty cheap and the lock likes to stick and the keys for it are flimsy.. but its a lot better the the little plastic toolbox I had before!

Go to Sears hardware they should let you open the box to check the quality.

I agree with those that mentioned Harbor Freight and Lowe's for tool boxes. Doesn't Sears have different grades of boxes? Like an industrial & professional grade? Maybe those only come in the bigger sizes.

I've been told by someone who worked at Lowes for a while that the Kobalt brand is the same company that builds for Craftsman.

I understand what you all are saying about the boxes, but what you have as stated above is that Craftsman have many different levels of quality now. They have the inexpensive and then they have the nice stuff.

Here is my Jonnesway box. I got it when I was in tech school so I got the school discount. I think I paid like 450 for the bottom and 400 for the top box. I haven't looked recently but I think they are like 600 per box now. It's been a really good box. Built really heavy, I believe the bottom box weighs like 170 pounds by itself. All the drawers have slides with ball bearings and they slide fairly easily if you keep them clean and greased.

i have 2 Craftsman boxes. One was my dad's and is old as shit. still looks good and works perfect. My other one i got about 2 years ago and i havent had a problem with it. I also have a portable Craftsman professional grade that i keep in my truck. the thing has been rolled around and beat on and is still as good as new.

I do believe that Craftsman has gone to the two grades of tools for most of their stuff. They have the regular stuff and the professional grade. I honestly dont see much difference in them other than the price.

As for the dents and scratches on your box, the warehouse guys at sears could really suck and be beating on it before you get it.
