To port or not?

I've never heard a ported box that didn't sound like a whoopie cushion. I prefer sealed boxes.

Port it. Lets go for just a little more volume. Lets work around 4.0 cu ft. Next we are gonna re adjust the tuning to 34-36 Hz.

Don't believe me, Plug the specs into BassBox Pro 6. On other thing, 5/8-inch MDF ain't gonna cut it. Definately need to build a box with 3/4-inch MDF.

Those boxes are typically toooo small and tuned to low. This combination will get you a one note wonder. A properly sized ported enclosure will sound.

I dont have bassbox pro but would love to have it, I been using winisd and the pro version. If you have a copy you dont mind sharing I would enjoy playing with it too.

sealed ported i great and you could get a higher spl but i recommend a sealed box

the responses here remind me why I stopped checking the forums every day. I'm not going to comment on the differences between the two but you have a better chance of exceeding the mechanical limits of the drivers with a ported box. If you know the limitations of your setup your fine but you risk losing your subs if your mechanic wonders how loud the bass can go and cranks it all the way up. ps if your ported box sounds like a whoopie cushion you made it wrong. Bad box, wrong Vas or wrong size ports & flares.

is the box carpeted or bare? if its bare and you dont really care about looks, you can port your current box with some pvc pipe and silicone.

honestly i dont think its worth going through the trouble of taking the box back apart and porting it, thats your call. It really depends on what kind of sound your wanting to get. If you listen to more rock you'll definately want to go with a sealed box for it will allow for a sharper sound. Now if you listen to that ghetto rap garbage (no offense), go ahead and do a ported box. Because it will let the subs hold out the super low notes found in most rap sounds for alot longer. Personal preference is what it all boils down to.

just because you dont like rap doesnt make it garbage or ghetto. and by putting "no offense" means you know its going to offend people and your trying to cover your ass. so keep the negativity to yourself. its not welcome here.
