tire tubes safe on highway?

haha, i lost the wheel on a mazda once... almost put me in a guardrail, but once i realized it what happened it was easy to control.

update!!! ive had the tube in there for a while now, with a plug-patch covering the hole. it balanced perfect, and it doesnt wobble or anything down the highway. have taken 3hour trips with it and no problems! so its a good fix in my books. thanks for all the help guys.

been using tubes for years in my dd/trail rig, never a problem. i did get "radial" tubes for the radial tires. just an extra layer of protection and a little harder to loose a bead on the trails.
