Tire and gear question

I have an 88' ranger with a 2.9, 3 bl, and 31.1050s. The combinaton is pretty good right now cuz on the street the truck still moves pretty good and offroad is does awesome. In the next 3 months ill be swapping in a 4.0 and getting i think 6inch lift. So with 9inches and most likey putting 35s on the truck, do you think that more power n torque will balance it all out or should i be looking to change the gearing in the truck? Also keep in mind im planning on swapping in a d35 and explorer8.8 rear end. Currently tho i believe my truck has 3.73s in it. Just tell me what yins think....thanks.

You'll want 4.88s or at least 4.56s with 35s. Your engine will be much happier, and so will you when it comes time to fill the tank.

I have 4.10s & 33s. 4.56 is better.

456's for 33's and the 4.0L

mine still pulls 17 avg with mixed driving in the hills and grades. 70 would be your "cruise" sweet spot, speed on the freeway.all free way at 70 I could pull 19ish. You could push 80 if you like even, but you would be al ittle wound out and lose some mpgs.But hitting 80+ for passing is no problem.

I ran 35's as well for a bit w/ 4,56;s, still pulled 17 in mixed driving in the hills
,but it lost a little power.got slighty lazy.35's would do better with 4.88's

ic, just trying to decide if i want to go 4in suspension lift along with the 3in BL and 33s or go 6in suspension with the body lift running 35s, cuz my buddys got 7in total with 33s and it looks good but i knida want bigger u know

I would have to say 31.1050s and i think u would alright with stock gearing, what gears u have now?

what kinda mileage would i look at if i was running 35.1250s with the 4.0 and 4.56s? and what if i ran 4.88s? Im just wondering how big of a different the 2 gear set ups are from one another

I would expect between 20-21 MPG with either 4.56 or 4.88 if you have a stickshift. You'll have much more pep with 4.88 though.

I was getting over 20MPG on a very well running 4.0 4 door explorer on 36's and 5.13's. That was with an auto. I was averaging around 21-22 MPG on the highway.

ya i do have a manual and that sounds good cuz thats about wat i get now with the 2.9, well more like 23mpg...and the only other question i have is how will that effect my top speed bcuz i am on the highway here n there but i wudnt really need to go anyfaster than 70
