Timing the 2.3

You have have a cover that was made before 1980. They used a single pointer and a single mark on the pulley. I'd hit the wrecking yards and get a pulley and the plastic cover (both inner and outer pcs) and install them so the timing could be set correctly.

If they used a single mark on the pulley and a single pointer, and it would time a pre 80 engine, wouldn't it be the same for the post 80 engines?

I'm thinking he mis-typed there.

The older engines used a single pionter on the cover and had a scale engraved into the pulley. I can scrounge around my shop this week and see if I have an older pulley that you can have. But, again, what sort of ignition system are you running? The older pulley will not work with a DIS system.

But for now, with the two marks aligned the engine should be at TDC. I'd suggest timing it so that the mark on the pulley is about a 1/4" before the pointer on the cover.

Thank you, this was exacty what I was looking for, and if you refer back to my first post, this is the exact question I asked. Sorry for any confusion.

No problem, sorry it took so long to figure out what you had. Pictures are a wonderful thing sometimes.
