Hello all,

I am having a bit of an issue, my 98 ranger 2.5L wont start. When ever I go koeo there is a very loud ticking noise coming from my relay box in the engine bay. I originally thought it may have been a blown relay so I checked and I can feel the ticking coming from my #13 relay. I replaced it hoping this would solve the issue but no dice, I still have the ticking from the #13 relay and the engine will no turn over. The ticking sounds like the 4-ways are on and the lights are flashing as though they are on but the button IS NOT pressed. My battery and check gauge light come on when I try to turn the engine over but when I run an OBD-II scan nothing comes up except low battery voltage. I hope this is enough information to get headed in the right direction and thank you for any advice you can lend.

clean up the connections and make sure the battery voltage is good....may need to jump it or put the charger on it.

I tried jumping it but I had the same result but I can try charging it. I also had a blown 20V fuse coming from the positive cable on the battery. The only other thing I can think of is the anti-theft system on it.

the antitheft may be interfering with the starter. i assume you have an aftermarket alarm if that is the case. may need to bypass all of that.

did you manually engage the starter?

are you sure the clutch switch is not jacked up?

pats did start in 98, but i have not seen many 4 cyl manual units which is why i suspect an aftermarket system. if it is factory pats system then there is quite a bit of potential in issues.
