Ok, so please forgive my lack of knowledge on any of this stuff... First truck so i have no idea what parts there is and etc. i know know its not supposed to make this noise, and that it doesnt all the time lol.
Ok so the first thing i have is when i turn on the truck first and it needs to warm up, there is a kind of ticking sound or something coming from the engine compartment. That goes away when it warms up good so i figured that is allright for now at least. I live in Canada so it is pretty cold here and as far as i can remember it only did it when it was real cold. The ticking is pretty loud and u can definately hear it, even over my glasspack (yes, i know... im working on it
).
So thats just a minor inconveinience... but i brought that up because i am thinking that is the same "ticking" i am hearing in these other situations. So what this thread i really about, is when i have to push my truck a little, it starts ticking real loudly from the front again. I am pretty sure it is the same sound. It goes with the RPMS as i drive or idle. Has happened to me when i was pulling my dads van up a steep hill (real deep snow and dead end at the end lol... that was fun times...
) and i had to have it in 4x4 to give the van enough power and momentum to make it back up again (basic stuff). Its a really bad sound lol should not happen and scares me.
Also today, i had spent the night over at a buddie's farm and the roads to it are crap, with huge snow drifts. Everyone got stuck because the snow was real deep in alot of places and even my truck got stuck on the way because i was going at it too slow. So anyways, this morning omw back to town im going thru and the roads are even worse as the snow is coming down real hard and thick here atm. So i know i needed to keep my speed up and i kept it in 3rd to make sure i had the power to blast thru (was going maybe a little faster than 50hm/h). These drifts were deep and grabs ur car, u stop and then ur fawked lol. But anyways im going thru these drifts (in 4x4 of course) and every one i hit i give it some throttle to get thru because they seriously slow you down fast. Then as im going down the road i notice the "ticking" again and that starts to freak me out. And it was pretty loud.
So anyways, i had no choice but to keep going so when i got back into town i pulled over and popped the hood to attempt to locate te sound. I have no idea what the parts are exept for the extreemly basic stuff, but i figured it seems to be coming from the fan section at the front maybe. Seemed to me like it might have something to do with the belts, which would make sense because it goes with the RPMs right? But its not like i had it redlined or anything, i just needed that lower gear for the extra tourqe. Otherwise the truck just slows down in those huge drifts and i9 have to gear down anyways (and in turn get stuck).
I breifly looked around and (from what i could tell) there wasnt anything loose and banging against the engine or anything, and i didnt see any pools of liquid. I'm hoping someone here has run into something like this, i know someone would have lol. But i know my explanation is absolute crap because i dont even really know what im talking about, what i said i think it might be is just a simple theory
And btw, i've only owned this truck since like august but it has 292XXXkms on it. And it seems to only happen when im in 4x4 having to power thru something, never happened when i have the rpms up roaring around town or nothing
Thanks for reading... very sorry for the short novel, just trying to explain what little i know about it the best i can. Thank you in advance for any theories
