Ticking question

No skid plate, the front has the standard cross member and the lift is attached to it then it goes back to the torsion bars. Its all bolt on and it looks like they knew what they were doing.

Sounds like a Superlift to me. They don't all have the Superlift skid plate on them so it may just be missing that. How about the rear? Lift springs or stacked blocks? I just care to bet it's a Superlift. Why don't you have 33's on it?

No blocks in the rear, they are lift springs. These tires were just put on right when I bought the truck they hadn't even touched the road for more than a few miles:) Right now its a big white curb ornament because I don't even want to drive it due to the ticking, im gonna get exhaust on it tomarrow and see if that cures it.

Hmm. I dunno then. Shane has a Superlift on his truck, not sure if he has blocks or lift springs. Either way you have the better option. The ticking won't hurt anything. It's just annoying. How much are you lookin to get for it if you do sell it?

Ya its annoying at least if I get loud exhaust I wont be able to hear it:) If I do sell it im probably gonna ask somewhere around 6000 for it, with all the stuff I have done to it and the condition its in I should be able to get somewhere around that, I have seen these trucks go for 5500 in nowhere near the shape mine is in. It would be nice to know what is causing the tick though, oh well if you don't think it will hurt anything I won't worry as much about it, thanks for easing my mind tom:)

If I can figure out my sisters camera I will take a video while riding in my truck so you can hear the ticking I hear and compare that to your noise. Just so you know, I chopped my exhaust off after the cat and ran it straight pipe for awhile. It sounded good, I lost power, and the ticking got louder. I ran a new exhaust and the ticking's not as loud but it's very audible. By the way, I wish I had $6,000. I'd snag it off your hands in a heart beat.

Got the new exhaust on it today, it sounds good not to loud but still healthy. The tick is still there but I will keep driving it until it gets worse or I can figure out what it is. Im starting to think it might be a lifter, thats what it sounds like so maybe when I scoped the valve cover I didn't get the right spot. The only difference is that I don't hear it while im driving only while sitting next to a wall or something. Its probably normal and its running fine sometimes it will miss once or twice while im sitting in traffic but that could be caused by one of a dozen things otherwise the idle is really good.

Maybe then. If you can't hear it while driving it's not an exhaust leak. As far as I know the lifters on Fords have always been a little noisey. They may need an adjustment.

Is the ticking noticeable only on medium to hard acceleration or idleing? If it's under acceleration welcome to the world of noisy valvetrains... not really a huge deal unless it's rediculously loud.

Its most noticeable at idle when im sitting next to a wall or underneath the truck. When I rev the motor it sounds like a normal motor but when it comes back to idle thats when it ticks, but it is constant like its the same thing making the noise the whole time so it probably is one lifter out of adjustment. Im gonna scope it again this weekend and see if I can pinpoint it a little bit better. I can also hear it when I take off but its not the same as idle.

Ok I scoped it for like 20 minutes and its not coming from the bottom end, if it was it would be extremely loud with the stethoscope and its not. I scoped the heads again and the only thing that I can find that remotely makes the same noise are the injectors clicking so maybe I just have a loud one and the sound is traveling through to where I can here it. I scoped the exhaust manifolds at every point I could and didn't here anything, if it was a valve or a lifter im sure I would have heard it there or right on the head and I didn't. At this point im tired of scoping so I think I will drive it and not worry so much about it, if it was serious im sure it would be causing me other problems or im sure I would be able to find the source. Thanks guys enjoy your weekend:)

I found the problem, It's that new timing belt. JK.

Valve train noise is not common to 3.0s. Only non-roller 2.3s and cologne engines.

EVERY part will fail eventually. Replacement parts for Rangers are cheap and easy to replace. Not so for Hondas.
I wouldn't trade a Ranger for 6 Hondas.
