Thats good, 'cause I'm doing away with mechanical fan for an electric setup.

Look at the 3rd Pic in Post #7. Right next to the distributor (and clearing it by only an 1/8") is a brass tee attached to the intake manifold's front coolant passage. The center leg goes to the heater hose, and the top leg is my Temp Switch for the Electric Fan(s).

Here's my relays (I only have 1 "puller" fan installed -- relay for "Fan 2" is wired in and exists just in case I need to install a "pusher" fan. Pic was taken prior to "Fan 1" being installed. Each relay has its own 15A fuse and they're installed right where Ford should've put 'em.:icon_thumby:):

Depending upon particular application -- A/C mounting bracket would go there.

smog-less has nothing to do with that hole. That hole is for the PCV line. (PositiveCrankcaseVentilation) There is a valve/line combo that goes from there to your intake manifold.

IDK about that sensor, looks like (another) coolant temp sensor. take it out and see whats on the other side, see what it would be touching, thats what it's sensing. (compare it to your known coolant/air temp sensors)

Have you got an air compressor? Remove the sensor in question. Blow air into the cooling system somewhere at the front of the engine -- into the crankcase -- or into the oil gallery where the oil psi sensor is at. You'll get your answer.
Dishtowel is probably right, "looks like (another) coolant temp sensor". The temp gage's sensor is usually at the front left of the intake. The Engine Coolant Temp Sensor (ECT) is usually mounted at the rear of the intake manifold. But, this one looks like it's on the block. Hmmm? I won't even profess to be knowledgeable with every 5.0L application. Blow some shop air through it -- you'll figure it out. Then, post a reply. Educate us.

I asked my brother if knew what that sensor was for(since he took the motor apart in the first place), and he told me that it is the knock sensor. I had no idea.

Thats where it was when it came out of the F-150, and thats where it's going when it's in the Ranger, I guess
