Throttle Body Question

I was wondering if a throttle body off of a taurus would fit on my ranger (same engine) and if so, is it any bigger? Not sure what year it is yet, but my ranger is a 2000.

the 2 valve 3.0 in the taurus is the same engine as the one used in your ranger..and thus the throttle body is the same.

your only option for a larger throttle body is a modified 3.0 duratech unit....for some reason, everyone opts for a TB off of a 3.0 escape...though theoretically a duratech in a taurus is exactly the same. you need to start with a composite intake plenum, (which your truck should already have), to which you attach the duratech TB....some filling and filing needs to be done to the IAC are for proper fit and seal.

be warned that a larger TB by itself will provide almost no power increase...the intake system needs to be worked on as a whole for any respectable gains to be had.

How much filing are we talkin about here? and what type of other intake mods?

I believe Wicked is referring to porting and polishing the heads and intake (both upper and lower). If you were to spend the money on a p&p job, opening up the exhaust would help as well.

there is a gap created neer the IAC when the escape TB is bolted to the vulcans intake plenum....the gap needs to be filled with JB weld and grinded smooth for a good seal. if memory serves, you also need to do some notching and grinding on the plenum itself for the IAC to clear.

and evan hit the nail on the head. a good p&p with special attention to the short radius and preferably gasket matching is in order. there is lots of room for improvement with the way modern intake and head peices are cast. extrude honing of the composite intake would be nice, but probably not cost effective. as for exhaust, headers are a given since those stock manifolds eat power for dinner. anything after that is mostly for sound.
