common problems or anything? i have read up on the 98 and newer common problem thread i am not completely done with it.what about reliability and durability for the 4L? i would plan on wheeling this truck a little bit and my DD. so what kinda mpg could i expect? since i will be going from 30 average :icon_surprised: to w.e the ranger would get.

granted i don't ever expect to be going where any of my freinds are going with there rams and there silverado :(, but they also can take there 8 mpg at best.

when i had 33x10.5 on my truck i was geting 18 city 20 hwy. two big conserns with the truck are the pulse vacume hubs and with the supper lift on the truck it needs the supper lift driveshaft. pulse vacume hubs can be fixed with a set of (avm) hubs here is a link on it. http://www.therangerstation.com/tech_library/AVM_hub_swap.htm

if you dont mind me asking, what motor did you have, how much of a lift(body or suspension) did you have, and most importantly what gears were you running?

and i havent had any major problems my 98 with the 5 speed and the 3.0, pvh hubs are holding up good (knock on wood). And I have 160,000 miles on my orginal clutch, keep in mind i have the 3.0 but iget around 19.5mpg

that's one thing i wasn't sure of was which lift it was and how can i tell if it has there drive shaft? it basically has a drop bracket for the lower control arms you can see where the factory mount is then it's a bar that runs under the k-member and mounts the lower arms a bit lower and rear was like a block lift? type of thing for the rear of the truck.also thoughts on the price? if the owner is on here my bad...

well if its the suspension lift that alone costs around $1500 because its such a drastic change to the front suspension of the 98+ trucks

Well those are really low miles for a '98'. I lost my 2000 4.0 at 66K with a blown head gasket or cracked head/block. Turned around four months ago and bought basically the same truck with 159K on it. Both were stock suspension and used just as my Winter DD.

There's only currently one maker of suspension lifts for that year Ranger and that is Superlift. It looks like it still has the torsion bars so that rules out RCD. Like what was said before, you wanna make sure it has the Superlift driveshaft. If not don't that stop you from buying it. That driveshaft may cost about $400 but you can made from an Explorer front driveshaft. The price of the truck ain't too bad considering the low miles and condition of the truck. I'd say buy it.

Even if it really only has 49K and not 149K, it's not worth 7 grand. Also, it's a regular cab. Is that all right for you? Some guys are OK with them, but I have to have the ext cab for the extra leg room and storage space. I wouldn't want to DD a reg cab. Also, I'd check and see what gears are in it. 4.10s would be nice. But if you're concerned about mileage 3.73s would be all right too.

my current DD for the past year and a half has been a miata :), also has 4.10's but i still manage 33mpg, lol.also 7k is not what i am going to pay wouldn't buy it for that.

looks like a decent truck. id offer him 5500. keep in mind offroad tires may mean worn clutch. drive it and see. and dont do the common mistakes of judging it by if it pulls while braking (idiots).

i run a 4.0 with 32's and 4.56 and they run great.

Nice truck, but he wants a lot for it. But it's got all the right stuff and low miles.

:( offered him a trade for my miata plus cash, since the credit union would only give 4700 for his truck and don't have much to put on top currently...so told him 5 after found that out he said no on that why i offered my car for trade plus a little cash.

didnt see any mention of what the gearing was on that truck, if its stock gearing with those bigger tires, its going to perform doggily and use the fuel, the pvh hubs arent known for being very reliable.
