Thoughts On Royal Purple Oil?

Yep but I figured it would turn into a heated debate like the last couple times it's came up. I wasn't sayin it shouldn't be put in. 80w gear oil should be put in the Mitsubishi transmissions but not the Mazda transmissions. It's been several years since I messed with a ranger trans so I looked it up in the manual. It says 83-87 use 80w gear oil. 88 on only use it in the Mitsubishi transmission.

My truck came with a manual 4 speed, it had a bolt on bellhousing. We came into possession of a 5 speed. We were able to swap bell housing and converted to a internal slave cylinder, move the transmission cross member to the "other" set of holes in the frame and we made a little spacer plate so we could still use the 4 spd shifter.

It worked great. Then we had problems with aftermarket starters, (I had to replace the bendix, from a 9 tooth to a ten tooth starter gear.
)The aftermarket starters all have nine teeth, if you got a early manual, a 2.8 with a manual, make SURE, you may need to go to a starter shop and have the new starter retrofitted with a TEN tooth starter gear.

My transmission is a 5R55E and the manual said it needs mercon v.
Yes but that's an automatic. Last I looked, Ford manual trannys called for plain Mercon. I've used Mobil 1 ATF which is rated for Mercon and Mercon V both.

Exactly, that's why I put mercon v in it. The castrol stuff I got is pretty good, it was actually the only stuff I could really find.

Just to let you know, I use Royal Purple in all my engines, even the lawn mowers. RP is good stuff and keeps internal parts clean. I can really feel a difference in the manual transmission when I switched from Mobil 1 ATF to RP SyncroMax. My Ranger has been using Royal Purple since 85k miles, it is now over 150k miles and still runs great.

The old Royal Purple motor oil was awesome, used it on everything also.

But, and it is a big one: It was improved (No longer SL API) to the same current/improved EPA mandated everyone has gone to.
I have been too suspicious to try it.
.
I do agree that the gear oil does seem to be nicer than average.
