This is what ya want, mate!

That was an unusual-looking Falcon Ute; the others I saw had more conventional front ends. I'll post some more photos when I get home later, including a 1976 Falcon 500 that was very cool in a "survivor" kind of way. Looked like every '70s Ford you ever saw, and no '70s Ford you ever saw, all at the same time.

More Aussie Fords (and a hard-working Ranger)

Here are some more shots from South Australia.

This is the Falcon XR-6, a very popular car in Australia. Quite up-to-date for a RWD, straight 6 (this is in Hahndorf, an old German-settled town nearby):

And another one; looks quite similar to the Holden (GM) Commodore, the basis for the late Pontiac G8:

A Falcon wagon (I think they use the term "estate" in Australia, like Great Britain, to indicate a wagon); I rode in one of these to the airport; it had a nice, growly exhaust note from the straight 6:

Finally, in case you thought I forgot about Rangers, here's a working truck, on the ramp at San Francisco, with a United 757 departing as UA870 to New York JFK.

Next, I'll have that '76 Falcon 500 I promised.

That's the one! I could only give it a 5minute search this morning and didn't have any luck.

This was the actual video I recall, but yeah, same engine/shop/etc, just apparently a little more tuning. a more impressive video too (I think at least)

that is insane?

anyway to get one of those straight 6 engines over here to the states??????????

So I just got back from a trip to Australia yesterday. While I was there (in Adelaide, a medium-sized city in South Australia), I spied some tasty Rangers and other Fords. I'll tease you with this:

ry%3D480

Yes, it's a full 4-door, with a 3.0 turbo-diesel. Sorry, you can't get those things stateside!

ry%3D480

The exterior is kind of plain-jane, but inside looks pretty nice:

I DON'T CARE IF YOU THINK IT IS PLAIN!!!!!! I WANT ONE!!!

I have been to Australia 15 times. They are the nicest peps you can ever meet!! Lots of women and families that want their girls to marry an American since they love us so much for protecting them for so many years.

The Ranger crew cab is nothing new. This 4 door has been around (outside USA only) for a bunch of years now. I have been crying about us getting one here in America for years on this site!!!! Crap on Ford for not giving us one when GM, Chevy, Nissan and Toyota has had one for so long here in the USA!!!!! I WANT A 4 REAL 4 DOOR RANGER HERE IN THE USA!!!!!!!

straycat:

I didn't mean it as a diss. when I said it was plain jane; I like the way it looks with those steel wheels. Some bigger/fancier ones would look good on there, though.

And you're right; Aussies are very cool. Probably the friendliest people I've ever met all around the world. They like to talk and always have questions about what it's like in America.

A crew cab Ranger would be cool; I don't pretend to understand Ford's thinking.

I can't understand why they don't bring the CARS over here... a high powered, rear wheel drive, 4-door sedan that you can take the family, friends AND groceries in?!

*keeps dreaming*

Vintage Aussie Iron

Here's that Falcon 500 I promised. It's a 1976:

Looks a bit like a Maverick, a bit like a Torino, but is definitely a Ford (smaller bumpers than American cars of that era). Those wheel covers are just like those on the '70 Maverick, and the door handles are like the '71 full-size Ford and Mustang. According to the 4.1 badge on the fender (and the owner), it's a 250 straight-six.

Some rust, but I give it points for originality. I heard that in South Australia, it's feasable to own/drive an older car, while other Australian states have stricter rules that get cars off the road after a number of years.

The owner (getting in) was cool; he told me the car had belonged to his Dad since new and he drove it regularly to keep it going. I kind of want it.

They did bring the car over here... It's called a GTO... Basically the GTO was based off the 2 door version of the Commodore, which was a bigger Cadillac Catera... It's all full circle...

yes its true that his would be nice to have 4 doors ford ranger to replace our door suicides that we offer with the xlt ~ (extended cab)

did you may be forgetting that the ford explorer sport trac which is useful

The Ford Explorer Sport Trac continues to be one of the most versatile and athletic offerings in Ford's SUV lineup. It combines many of the interior features of the four-door Explorer with the cargo-carrying flexibility of a pickup.
