I just made the swap on my 03 Ranger and was wondering if anyone would like me to make a how-to guide on this?It is fairly simple if you can do a little wiring and will make a night and day difference afterwards.

I assume late '03? Because '03 and older it's as simple as unscrewing 2 screws and unpluging it, and then plugging the new one in, and screwing it on.

Go ahead how-tos are always nice.

Mine is early 03 (built Nov. 2002) I tried the same thing but when i plugged it in, it still didn't work, so i wired it into the interior dome light. I will start working on the how-to guide on it tomorrow. Just thought it would be helpful to anybody who would like to make the swap.

Did you chase the wiring back from the light to where it goes ?

Ford is not know for putting in higher gauge wiring than needed for a particular application so be careful not to overload the circuit.

I just run the wire from the dome light right to the cargo light and spliced into the cargo light. I think i used 16 ga. wire, do you think that is too heavy?

How-to

I'd appreciate a how-to. I am considering this change for my '04 Edge. Thanks!

sorry its been so long for me to get back to you guys. I will get you started with supplies. What you will need is the 3rd brake light, the plug in harness behind it, a philips screwdriver, wire strippers, about 8 inches of wire for a reg. cab and probably about 2 and a half foot for a supercab (measure it to get the right length but add extra to it), a t-shaped wire connector (one in,two out) . You should be able to get the light and the harness from your local salvage yard (cheaper than the internet) ( you might have to go out and get it yourself because they looked at me like i was stupid when i said what i wanted)make extra sure you get the harness!!!
