Thinking about buying another 88 B2 need opions ASAP thanks

I am looking to buy another 1988 B2 means I just recently got rid of mine. It is a 1988 B2 black (painted a couple years back its in ok shape) It has a manual 5spd with manual locking hubs and manaul tcase everything works it has burgandy interior thats in mint shape. It has aftermarket wheels stock tire size (NO LIFT AT ALL) 99.7 pct rust free. Its an XL version I think now for the bad the guy popped a freeze plug a month ago and its just been sitting I started it for about 10 seconds just to make sure it turned over and all. It has a very light (common) 2.9 lifter tap. He is asking 400 OBO for it im thinking about picking it up and just rebuilding the 2.9 and using her as a DD what do you guys think?

well considering I just paid $800 for a '90 XLT with a bad clutch AND bad transmission, I'd say that's probably a pretty good deal.

I looked at an '88 just like the one you described except that it didn't run. The guy was asking $750 and told me it ran, and then claimed it had run earlier that day after I had driven 45 minutes to see it. It obviously had not, since it was stone cold and when I hit the fuel pressure release valve on the fuel rail the gasoline STUNK and was more water than gasoline. It had to have been sitting there for at least 3 years. I started asking him about it running and he started backpeddling, so I knew at that point there was no telling what else he was hiding from me.

I offered him $400, which pissed him off, and then left. It appeared sold on craigslist two days later, poor sucker.
