My rear driveshaft is probably around 27-28" flange-flange. Seems to be fine (its a double-cardan CV shaft (3 u-joints)).
 
Don't use blocks in the back. Either lift springs or longer shackles. With taller blocks in the back you get some pretty sever axle wrap.


I'm just curious why you added "in the back".
As far as I understand/know using blocks in the front is illegal and RIDICULOUSLY dangerous. I say this because I saw a wreck where the front axle (with blocks) wrapped/twisted and the blocks broke or squirted out and his steering went away and he crossed the meridian on a 4 lane highway, and totaled the truck, idk if he lived or not. If the back axle blocks break or squirt out you have a bad case or dog tracking, but it probably will not equate to immediate catastrophe.
I have 2" blocks in the back underneath exploder springs and I do not have any noticeable axle wrap. I doubt you consider 2" to be 'taller' blocks, lol, i don't.

In my experience axle wrap has been directly related to available torque. My 2.9 dosn't pose a problem, when I was driving my Nova SS with a 4 barrel, then I could get some axle wrap happening.
