the speakers behind the seats

my stock ones sound alright, they can go loud enough to make my ears ring without getting too distorted. i read the door ones are 5.5 inches or something, and not 6x8? 98 ranger with a reg cab is what i drive. I'd like to replace these too. And would you guys recommend not ghetto rigging the wrong size speakers? cause i saw 2 6x9's and 2 6.5's on craigslist, they were new and Sony xplods, and they were 40 dollars. obviously sold in a second but i couldve had them but i figured it would've been a headache fabricating some kind of holding for them.

also i think the walbutt speakers were 240 watt. does this make any diff with a stock radio?

i think you do have 5x7/6x8 in the doors. i have a 2000 reg cab which is the same body style and i had 5x7/6x8 front and rear.

That's not true at all. The rear speakers make a huge difference. I had mine disconnected for a while to run just my sub in the back (turned the fader to the back a little and turned up the bass since I don't have an amp yet) but I just re-connected them and the difference is incredible. I have 4 of the pioneer 6x8's (they work great) and a 12" kicker comp vr and it sounds great.

i have some 6.5" infinity components isntalled up front. theyre getting a good clean 100 watts each. i have the fader set all the way to the front. i also have a 8" sub getting 150 watts. these wattage rating are at 12.5v, so im a little more when the car is on. now when i set the fader so the front and rear get equal signal, you cant even notice the rears.

If you have an amp and subs, the rear speakers are not as effective as they are when you are running 6x8s off th head unit. I have kicker components up front and pioneer 6x8s in the rear, and the 6x8s actually have louder bass response (everything is running off the headunit). I personaly like feeling my seat vibrate when the lows hit. If I fade the volume to the front, it still sounds good, but to me, it definately sounds fuller with the rear seakers... Now if you are running $200 components and a sub and an amp, then I think the rear speakers will get drowned out and become unneccassary (I can never spell that word right)

Ignore that 240 watt rating. They are 40 watt rms.

If you live near Portland, Oregon you could go to Outragous Audio, they have awesome deals there!

i think as long as you're tall enough that your ears are over the head rests no matter what it's gonna sound a lot better with the rear speakers... now if you're really short then don't even worry about it.

i think it has to do with the placement of the rear speakers. i beleive the 97 and older models had the rear speaker low on the back panel. so atleast there was some room between the seet and the speaker. in the 98-00 models its higher up, so when the seat is all the way back, it contacts with the speaker grille. so it sounds muffled in the 98-00 models. im not sure with the 01+ models.
