The "Ranger code."

I agree with ,"KARMA" and stop to help folks from time to time. Another thing to keep in mind is like 84stealthrider just commented Not even a thanks! A thanks when someone helps you really is appreciated :) :) :)

I try to help when I can. Mainly when we get snow, I don't mind pull people out of drifts and whatnot.

However, on the other side of the coin, just a few days ago someone stopped to help another motorist who had their hazard lights on. The guy gets out to offer help and three guys with guns jump out of the car, hold the guy at gun point, steal everything he has on him, and then steal his car.

Almost makes you think twice about stopping to help someone. I guess that's why I conceal carry.

I know I always want to help and in most cases do. Especially in the snow.

It's funny that you mention the Ranger because if I see one on the side of the road, they are definitely getting my help! There is one on the side of the road by my house....Its been there for over a week. If I ever pass when they are working on it, I'll be sure to stop and lend a hand.

and its a shame that you have to think twice about helping someone...You stop to help and get jumped by a bunch of low lifes.......Thats terrible.

That's why I like to keep snakes in my truck and a pet gater. :icon_thumby:

I get a lot of the 'Ranger wave' around here. Other Ranger drivers see you and they just wave at you or pull up next to you and say 'Hello'. Pretty cool!!

I'm guilty of that one too. Most of the time they look at you a little wierd......oh well...

Although, I work in Aston PA and someone around here has a 1st gen like mine and a roll bar. I saw him one time and he waved at me like he knew me...Wonder if it's anyone on here?

Sadly enough the biggest douche I have met so far drove a ranger. It was a complete pos but it was a ranger.

I'm sometimes weary of what y'all mentioned, regarding the gun point car jacks.

I have to admit that when I do stop, if I have a bad feeling about it I move on. I also discriminate against certain situations.

  • 2 dudes = capable
  • 1 dude = depends
  • Poorly dressed = shady company
  • Certain ethnicities = depends
  • Old = usually help
  • Female = usually help
  • Car hood up = usually stop
  • Family in van = sometimes stop

Racism is not necessarily an issue; it's the stigma or fear that I am the predator. I get treated as if I have the Bubonic plague and the look that some of them give me is not appealing. Besides, they see a lifted truck on tires and some may think "lynching redneck." A dragging incident w/ rope and a pickup happened about a decade ago here in Texas.

Also, there have been a couple guys that don't like accepting help from another guy. Seriously? You'd rather wait for AAA than for me to help jumpstart your beatup car?

*shrugs* It's hard to weed out the creeps.

On another note, vintage Porsche drivers are awesome and do "the nod/wave." The 911, 914, 924, 944, & 928 drivers acknowledge a fellow Porschephile, whereas Boxsters are snobbish D-bags (not all DD rivers...but yall know what I mean).

Rangers are everywhere (fleet trucks to DD beaters), so no special recognition is every given.

Ill usually stop and see if they need help.

Depends on the situation is all...

I got a stuck jeep out last year when a kid hopped a curb in the snow, gave people jumps, let others use my tow traps, dug an old ladies car out...etc.

Just last week 2 older guys were pulled half way off the road when i went to get a part for my truck, offered to help push it down the road to get it out of the way and they said nah were fine, got help on the way.

I know if i was stuck or in trouble then i would appreciate someone stopping and lending a hand.Like when i hit a pole in the snow a few years ago and no one stopped(granted only 2 cars passed)

Like was said before...karma.

Someone pulled up next to me when I was driving my 87 Ranger and asked me some questions about it and then said they had one around the same year. They said they liked it, but the cab was a little too shallow, not enough leg room. Then someone else pulled up next to me and told me they'd give me... I forget how much, I think it might have been $800 for it. At that time, I was like no way!
