The great spark plug question

I know that no Ranger's came with a blower. And funny thing, but my 98 3.0 Ranger requires the use of premium. I usually run 91 in it. It pings on anything less. Always has, ever since I've owned it. There's nothing I can replace that hasn't been replaced. Likely due to the fact I have a chip that bumps up the timing, a MAC intake, and run no muffler in the exhaust. Runs great, is a tad loud. Needs 91 octane.

3.0l Vulcan ran 9.3:1 compression ratio so any small issues of carbon build up(in cylinders) or EGR clog up will cause pinging on 87 octane
You could try 1 heat range cooler spark plugs next time you change them
And make sure DPFE and EGR are working well, if you disabled EGR then you would be stuck running higher octane

You don't need a clean windshield, do you? Water injection!

My Ranger doesn't even have squirt nozzles. Hasn't for years. That's a good idea, using it for water/methanol injection. I already have a small pipe in my tb that's plugged as of now. With the right size nozzle, it could work. I wouldn't have nozzles on my Lightning, but the new hood a guy in Missouri made for me, has the holes already there. I suppose I could've told him to fair them over before he painted it, but I actually never thought about it til it was too late.

What is the actual # on the right plugs for my 94, 4.0? "get OEM yell the masses, plugs" but what is the actual number on them? Still pinging like crazy when accelerating. want to start with the plugs.

When I first put it together my Ranger had a terrible ping on the highway.

Turned out the intake gasket was leaking.

I think some 4.0's had intake gasket sealing problems too, I found out about that after mom got rid of her '94 Explorer. It had to have 89 or it would ping like crazy.

ALL 4.0s need intake gaskets!! But I want to start with spark plugs and what's the real number for them, because it runs really well I just want to see which ones are in there compared to which ones are supposed to be in there!

Jeesh, no need to get mean.

According to my Champion book for a '93 4.0 they call for RS14YC6 copper, 3013 platinum or 7013 double platinum. Gap is .054"

And like the Count said you need six of them.

Thank you it wasn't me being mean it was just me making a little guilt Trip! ??

Denise - '94 4.0 = Motorcraft SP486 fine wire platinums @ $3.34 each on rock before 5% discount coupon code + shipping.

Only use regular copper or DOUBLE Platinum in Waste Spark systems, single platinum will wear out same as copper

Waste spark uses a Coil Pack, so if you have a coil pack, or two, then its a Waste spark system

...so the iridium ones I'm running are probably wrong, eh?

You'll need something that fits a 2.9:

Yesterday I realized that one snot-nosed Merkur owner from Pennsylvania is getting doughnuts in his yard.

Don't be the other Pennsylvanian that gets the same ?
