the brumby build

Also keep in mind your departure angle. My drop bracket still falls within my departure angle from the tire to the bumper.

ya i plan to do the same thing with my front bracket, keeping it as low as i can, but without it hanging off the frame.

i've read a bunch about shackle angle, and stuff, but until i get the axle on and weight on the truck, i'll be kinda guessing on the angle. and with the 6400 it will be hurting my departure angle, but it shouldn't be much, if i can keep the top of the shackle close to the body of the truck. and i agree with the idea of keeping it of the bumper, but if i need it further back, i don't see another option.

i'm not real worried about where my axle is is regards to the stock WB. i'd like to keep it the same that way my DS won't need to be messed with, and the wheel tub's would work too. but if it doesn't pan out that way... i'll just take a sawsall too it!

i could make my own drop brackets like yours, but it would be easier to pick urs up.. how much you want shipped? 86001

Looks like Shipping alone would be about $20 but that's just guessing on box size. I'll dig them out and box them up to get a better idea.

I had gotten 2 sets cut incase I messed one up, but they went together pretty good. Just needed a bit of grinding to clear the stock shackle.

i'm gonna draw up a set as well. i'll make them angle back towards the rear of the truck a bit too. maybe i'll cut them, but maybe not.

what about a flat rate box for yours? and you said its a 2in drop from the stock location? or 2in from the bottom of the frame?

new idea!!!!!

why not drill a new hole in the main leaf. move it about three inch's back from the usual. build the leaf pack using those holes. (or have my local spring shop build some 64in main leafs with the hole where i want it!)

then move the front hanger forward MORE, and keep the back shackle bracket right where it is.. this would keep my wheelbase the same as stock, let me run the 6400's and obtain the correct shackle angle!!!

well the suspension build took the back burner the last few days.

been busy pulling this!!!

it came out of a 96 4door explorer, use to be a taxi. odd enough, this taxi had cross drilled and slotted rotor, braided fuel lines, and an eight bolt flex plate.

i thought the 96 was suppose to be a six bolt?

correct me if i'm wrong, but this 4.0 is not the sohc, its the pushrod engine correct?

so in the hanyes manual, it showed a pic of the engine bay on a sohc and the pushrod engine. and my engine bay was definitely a sohc engine bay, but with a pushrod engine.

and if the explorer was a 96, the flywheel should have been a six bolt. not an eight like it is.

does this mean someone installed a pushrod 4.0 from 97-00 into my 96 sohc explorer?

wiring this is gonna be fun, i can tell that already...

you have a ohv (pushrod) engine there. 96 explorers came with ohv engines. expos went to sohcs in 98.

yes sir. just odd that its a eight bolt flywheel. and that the engine bay was setup like the SOHC engine bay's.

not that i care. its still better than the 2.9 liters of flirty.. (yes i said flirty)

It sprolly a mid year truck right as they were making the switch, otherwise its a ?police package? explorer I know they do some of the same interceptor stuff for the vics that they do for fleet vehicles like cabs. It would explain the brake system and heavy duty flywheel.

now how badass would that be! i'll grab the vin and check it out...

those were f150 brackets. but i cut some off the top, and took off the little nip that was hanging down. still need to redrill holes, but i have some more mocking up to do so i know the holes won't interfere with other holes in the frame, or my fuel filter mounting bolts

got the back left bracket installed. need to drill holes and mount the passenger side bracket next, then run my 1.5 tubing from one to the other for support...

leaving for phx now, then wedding on sat, THEN i can work on the truck again.

but school starts tuesday so i gotta get wrenching...

got the front hangers installed on the frame with grade eight 1/2 bolts. also mounted the rear drop hangers with the same bolts. cut some triangles and stuff outta 1/4 plate for some new body mounts. next is to have them welded up, drilled and installed. and have the rear spring hangers welded to the drop brackets. then install the leafs, and see how the shackle angle is!

i will also be welding two 1 1/2 .095 tube's from one drop bracket to the next. should be long, but my local welder left :(

got some things welded today.

new body mount, should fit inside the U of the front leaf hanger

this is the rear hangers welded to my brackets, and two 1 1/2in tubes connecting the left to the right for strength.
