The AC in my truck

It was a beach taking that unit out of there but we got it out removing the hot water lines made it a lot easier also. But looky look at all this space in there!
Seems like a good idea to remove this unit if one is doing an engine swap. Anyhow I rejoined Amazon Prime as a senior for 5.99 a month I'm getting most of my auto parts through there instead of other places because it's free shipping!

Seeing how much room is there without that unit in make me think it would be a great place for forced induction (turbo).

I need to test my system since it has not worked in at least close to 5 years. Any tips on testing for leaks? I was thinking of putting a vacuum on it to see if it holds but your comment about vacuum not being a good way now has me rethinking what should be done.

I removed mine whenever I pulled my engine. It made tons of room. Only took about fifteen minutes to get everything out.

Leaks are really hard to find. The fluorescent dye & light seem to work very well on systems like this. The trouble with the evaporator & condenser is of course they are partially accessible.

I have an electronic refrigerant sniffer it doesn't really help that much,

believe it or not good old soap bubbles are one of best leak finding tools there is.

New vs old comparison, very pleased with my delivery date from Amazon, :)

New into old..

just a mention here, the blower resistor had weeds around it and pretty much could start a fire.

Weeds?!?

Oh, how amusing!

They certainly go back together faster than they come apart!
Nitrogen, 100 +- psi see if it holds overnight, [emoji120]

Yes I know sorry about, that it's a PDF easy to find the second link connect to it through some other discussion group or something

AC system is back together holding charge of nitrogen, I think there may still have some leakage in the system, probably the condenser coil. I'll evacuate and charge it later today or tomorrow.

The nitrogen pressure dropped in half overnight, there could be a couple of reasons that are not leak related.
First is the old set of gauges I have.

Second, nitrogen has smaller atoms or molecules and will leak where refrigerants don't, even though I don't buy into that idea.

There's oil from the power steering all over the place I don't think it's refrigerant oil because there is no flourescent showing. May put a plastic bag around the compressor and use a sniffer on it. (And no remarks about huffing! LOL)

Well, AC works. Just a tad paranoid about refrigerant leaks,. I was in the truck and my eyes are burning so now I'm wondering if the new evaporator has a leak in it but we should know by the end of the weekend.

I'll check the cab air with the sniffer later.

Small update,
took the sniffer out back and started checking while the truck was running didn't get anything inside the cab for a brief moment I got a faster beat behind the compressor clutch it disappeared that quick,. So maybe the oil film is not power steering fluid.

More:
Sun went down so I'm no longer baking in the Sun. I found oil traces on the left side of the condenser coil sheet metal about 8" down where the high pressure compressor line connects. That line also happens to have the little rubber ball in the Schrader valve that is also leaking, and my new plastic cap twisted off inside and that was leaking, so there you go, all these troubles from somebody with a lifetime in a business lol I just know I'm going to be replacing every part of this air conditioning system by and by [emoji43]
