The 65


Ok well Monday I got the ranger back together and have been driving it, everything seems fine.

Onto the 65, the brakes are done! Kinda:icon_confused:
I blead them and everthing was fine a few minor leaks and had plenty of pedal pressure but the booster is leaking. This is a problem because I can't find a booster anywhere Napa, Autozone, Advanced Auto, LMC, and NPD all do not have it. Planning on sometime going to a local guy to see if he has any idea of how to do it without a kit or if that is even possible. The breaks work but they are hard to press down.
I did get the inside tires mounted and aired up. Just for around the yard not for hauling

Progress may be slow from here because my woodsplitter needs a new engine and there pretty expensive but will keep ya'll posted.

EDIT: Also put on new door locks that I have the key to eventually it will be nice to lock the doors!

Looks like your making some good progress with the ol rig!!

P.S. Those "cup holders" ain't worth the time they took to stamp them in there. Unless your stopped eating somewhere.
 
Small update

I order a new master cylinder and booster today. 1970-76' for a drum/drum setup. The pushrod and bolt pattern look the same but only time will tell shuould be here first of the week. This should be an improvement in safety also because this master cylinder is split where as the original was single.
Have been reaserching swaping a 2nd gen 10.25 in since the 6 lug 8-17.5 tires are around $250 a piece! This swap would give me a more modern lug pattern and tire size so that would be nice. I don't think those axles came stock with 5.13's like this d70 though.

According to the Ford service manual it is a model 70 rear. I figured they meant Dana 70 I guess I was mistaken
 
Update

Did a little reading and this is an eaton rear I think:icon_confused: It looks like a big 9" rear. Still haven't Id'ed it yet but I'm looking. Onto the good stuff finally.

Well I got a rebuilt booster and master cylinder from Napa $180 wasen't to bad. It's from a 1970-76 truck.

By going this route I gained a working booster and a split resevoir. Both pluses in my opion.

Turned out okay and bolted up the first time!

I think it turned out good. The only thing is the rod is bottoming out even though there is some resistance. Dad says the shoes just need adjusting so I'll have to mess with that but it does stop okay.

:headbang: Going from an old barely running 8hp briggs flatty to this was a big improvment!

Well little more is done. I should have updated this early like end of Augest but I got the windshield installed.

I got Safelite to do it hasen't leaked, the trucks just seems more complete and less junky now.
Next I finished up the brakes for hopefully the last time for awhile. I had the drums turned, Got new hardware and new shoes along with seals in the drums.

By the way to anyone doing wheel seals on a 65 f-350 a 2 5/16 socket works very well for setting the new ones!
Finally seem to have her running better also, the truck would want to sputter and die if you punched the gas, both under load and in nuetral however if you put her on choke it would be find. Ended up giving the idle screw a 1/4 turn up then one more 1/4 and problem solved. Hopefully:D

Next comes S/T/T lights along with clearance and marker lights and some tires then hopefully some driving. and picking up chicks
 
There is a Slick 60's page on Facebook. Guy in Arizona (if I remember) has one similar he calls Dumpy.

I kind of wish I would have gone with a 3/4 ton instead just because parts are way easier to find and factory 4x4. The cool thing is these old trucks are just so much simpler then the new ones.
 
That is "Ernie". He was 'stored' behind a garage for 6-7 years. I don't even remember what I paid for him, but spent a few hours here & there getting him running & drove him the 10 miles home.
He WAS a 352/Cruise-o-matic. Somewhere along the line he got a 360/390 & a C6.
Origionally we were going to use parts off him for my buddy's 65 but changed our minds after getting him home.
Needs cab mounts & floors. I have gathered most of the other things I need. Someday I'll get around to him. Right now I am working on other drivable projects.
 
If you have any advice on FE's I am all ears. The 65 has relatively little rust, some on the cab corners but for 46 years not to bad.
