Thats not a Hemi....

I saw an exporer last night with the license plate, "EXPLODR"

Thought it was funny.

will, why are you comparing highly modified nascar motors to stock, on-road motors.

anything can make gobs of torque and power if you have the money to throw at it. shoot there are civics out there putting down 3-400ft-lbs....but that doesnt make you cool.

The 300 I6 is a great little motor, I must admit. It's no Cummins though. I've driven both and like both, but if I need something to pull a heavy load, I'll take the Cummins every time.

Oh, and if you want to hook that Indy car up to a trailer, I'd still bet on the Dodge! The NASCAR ride wouldn't even get the load moving. They are geared so high and run so many revs, they have a difficult time keeping them lit coming out of the pit stalls.

I guess I thought we were talking about trucks here though.

Well, how many ways can we talk about that license plate and yes, we know the musclecar fanatics hate the newer Hemi. It's just topic association--one thing reminds you of something else and so on.

How much money do I need to turn my 4.0 into a 500ft# torque monster? Oh, wait, not much. All I have to do is set it on the long end of a lever with the fulcrum is about 12" from one end and 15" from the other. I'll sweep the field at the Indy 500 next year.

Of course it takes money. But since all 33 starters at Indy had that Honda engine I don't think it's easy to find someone that can use your money to put an engine on the track. Mercedes and Toyota and maybe the Olds Aurora and Cosworth--where were they this year? I don't know anything about the rules but I don't think a Civic with a fart pipe would keep up.

I try not to bag on dodge because they are the only ones that make trucks look like trucks anymore. I mean look at the new F-150's. They are about scraping off the ground.

Dodge half tons have decent ground clearance and ride height. i like the older style dodge pickup's better though. Sorry but i have to admit they are tough trucks.

Has Dodge gotten their shit together about those crappy transmissions? I can't tell you how many 1st gen Dodge Rams had transmission problems.

I hope they've fixed that problem by now.

my only beef with the new "hemi" motors is the fact that its a blatant lie (a good sales pitch, but a lie none the less). i dont think its a particularly bad motor, but then ive not had much experience with it. but i dont see why dodge has to lie to sell vehicles.:bsflag:

know whats funny...technically, the 1.9's in my escorts are "hemi" engines. ive been wanting to find some dodge "hemi" emblems to stick on the sides just to piss off the dodge guys.

Is not a true hemi like the 1.6 was ... :thefinger:

they're from the same family.

and they're both more of a hemi than the new dodges

lol im not 100% but i do know the old trannys sucked.

My step dad owns a 79 power wagon(the real power wagon)
with a 360 4 barrel. fulltime 4x4, running 35's. Its a sweet tough looking truck but you cant keep a tranny in it. I have no idea on what gears are in it. maybe that could casue his tranny problems with the big meats. hes had it rebuilt twice. yeah hes all mopar

its a auto. anybody have any idea what they were running for trannys in those?

thing makes it's own trails.:headbang:

A '79 should have a 727 in it if it's worth its beans. A 727 is good enough to keep a 14,000# motorhome with a 440 in it pumping down the highways and byways. Some trucks had the A904--whiffle tranny. My in-laws B200 conversion had it behind a small-block and replaced it everytime they went out west. And a '79 isn't a real Powerwagon. This is a real Powerwagon:
