Thank you highway gestapo

The cops here seem to be alright. I haven't had rear license plate lights on for two years now and haven't gotten pulled over for it yet, even when I've had a cop driving behind me at night.

Another time (years ago), I was wheeling (probably not quite legal where we were at) with some friends riding with in a muddy area with some small, steep hills. I left the area and continued driving out of town and came down a hill, blasted my Ranger to well over the 40 mph speed limit and saw a cop on the upcoming intersected road so I slowed down to the speed limit but he turned onto the road I was on and I knew I was busted. He drove by me, turned around and pulled me over. We went through the regular routine and I responded that I didn't know why he pulled me over. He then told me that I didn't have a front license plate. I told him I was sorry and it must have fallen off. He let me off with a warning. So my friends and I went back to where we were wheeling and sure enough, there was my license plate, plastered to a hill. If it wasn't for that cop pulling me over I would probably have never found my license plate since I wouldn't have noticed it missing for quite some time and would have had to pay to get a new one.

You don't want to move here, though. We have enough people. :D And, it gets cold.

avoid st. johnsville ny. they need money which adds up to more tickets. i always keep my gps and video camera in my truck just for my own protection.

I live in PA, I've had my share of experiences with local cops on a power trip, but it's usually been a localized thing and pretty much all of the state troopers I've met are pretty cool people. Two of them have given me permission to hunt in their backyards.

Edinboro, PA was by far the worst place for local cops. I came really close to beating the ever-loving shat out of one of the cops there... but that's another story.

To the OP, sounds like a number of your rights were violated, but if it was a local cop, you may have trouble fighting it. I went through that sort of wringer at college, the local cops would give a ticket for anything and the local magistrate would uphold them no matter what (I argued one ticket right out of the state DOT (Department Of Transportation) driver's handbook... and was still found guilty.... Good luck with fighting it though!!

with everything that has been posted here makes me glad I live in Canada. I am not saying that our cops are perfect either , there are stories up here as well.

Man, I have had no problems with cops at all... I hope it stays that way. I have no mud flaps, my tires stick way out past the fender, and my rear plate illumination doesn't work. I've been stopped at road blocks and at night, never had a problem. Same ol' routine... "You been drinking tonight?" "No sir, but I do have beer and registered firearms in the extended cab portion." "Fair enough, appreciate you letting us know. Have a safe night." They'll check my licenses and all, and I am free to go.

No trouble here either, only one had an attitude that sure could have been better. Last time I talked to a cop, he didn't pull me over or anything. Followed me up a 25 mph side street to the Ford dealer. I pulled into the second turn in and didn't see him behind me. Parked and here he is coming right in front of me, had a really good close look at the Stang. Not running the required front plate, exhaust "kind of loud" off road pipes. Sat there drivers windows three feet apart and just talked cars and such for about ten mins. Been real lucky in the past though.

yea the local jersey cops are cool, i worked with them when i was in high school, NJ state troopers are bad ass, i got a ticket from them but i was also a retard teenager and they didn't nail me for everything i did woohoo. I barely notice north Las vegas and metro cops out here, my buddy got a ticket for doin 140(and he was slowing down at the time) in a 45 contruction zone and they didn't take him to jail. the only people i have a problem with are base SPs. when they get bored they will pull you over for fun.

see here in SD cops just are there to look like they are doing something it has to be really drastic in order for you to get pulled over here. you can have as loud of exhaust and they dont care i love good ol south dakota

Well I gotta say, The way I grew up (poor & hood) I thought all cops were liars and jerks.
I got tried as an adult at 16 for fighting to much.(Broke a guys jaw)
Well with these Felonys on my record I was sure evey time I was stoped, If ever. I'd be put on the Ground and questiond. If you know what I mean.
Well to my surprise as I passed three big rigs in a row on the way home from work one night doing about 90. In our new at the time 1999 Altima, lol. their happend to be a CHP behind me. He lights me up and all i could think is I'm going to jail forever.lol so he comes up to the car I inform him I'm a parole, lic ins ETC, He says you know why I pulled you over? Honest as I am, I'm like probaly cause the three rigs and the 90mph. He say why you driving that fast. Honest again I'm like it's a new car seeing what i got for the money sir, He says. Now you know! Hows a 65 in a 55 sound to you. I said GREAT thank you. SIR. Lol. Now my neighbor and good friend, is an Iraq vet and a Cop. He's a good honest dude so I have some Faith. We joke, He Can't believe he's good friends with an EX- (I promote the EX- in Felon ) and I can't believe I hang out with a cop every day.LOL.

Ahh....I use to be one of those State Nazis. Some guys are cool, easy going. Some guys don't know how to seperate life from their career. You know those guys....they walk around with their 'COP/Sheriff' t-shirts on when they're off duty looking all bad ass and trying to get discounts.

Some of the nicest guys you can run in to are in uniform. Some of the biggest dickheads I ever met in my life are in uniform. Sometimes you see these guys and wonder why they ever took the job anyways, because they surely don't like people.

But on to your preoblem.......

Your situation is one that sucks. I've seen it many times. You get stuck in this rut from a DUI/OVI, DUS, or no insurance and you have to show proof of insurance to the state. Your insurance company generally files it for you. I've seen people switch insurance companies, show me the insurance, but are DUS because the state never received an update that shows they're insurance was renewed. You get caught in this vicous cycle that you can't get out of.

Yeah I know... It's like in the end they're regular people or something :icon_confused:

I was roommates in college with a guy who is now a Dallas/Ft. Worth police officer now. Probably one of the best friends I'll ever have.

I've only been hassled once, he didn't like my trailer ball on the bumper. Claimed he couldn't read my licence plate and a few other (very minor) things the he listed as personal pet peeves. Strangely enough he failed to mention the burned out licence plate bulb, nor my cracked tail light lens.

He let me off with a warning though, which I suppose was nice.

Of course I have nearly elbow length hair and had a pretty raging beard at the time. Obviously I'm trafficking drugs :icon_twisted:

Not me. I hate cops even when I need them. Every time I have had to call the cops and called 911 nobody even answered the phone. I hang up after five minutes of ringing and they called me back in fifteen minutes. Then after I get a hold of them the cops take two hours to show up. I get better service from dominoes. I'm sure there are cops out there that are decent people like Jim but I just have not had the good fortune of meeting them.

Hate is a strong word. I'd say most strongly disagree with tactics used in simple situations.
Yeah I know... It's like in the end we are all regular people or something.

Sorry it's the LAW. LMAO

following up in Jim Oaks and Captain Ledd
yes some of the nicest people I have ever met have been in uniform. It should go without saying that if you treat them like aholes you will probably get the same in return.
