Thailand Ranger concept

well in that pick it doesn't look to bad.

I'm old and I like it. My 92 is getting long in the tooth. I'm ready for something like this. The only change is to get rid of the goofy wheel arch flares.

I really don't like the front end. Maybe it'll eventually grow on me, like the new Super Dutys, but that hasn't happened yet. The taillights and tailgate remind me of an old '70's station wagon, and that bed cover and thing behind the cab also need to go.

Here's my first double-post (from Jalopnik.com). They are an auto enthusiast site (mostly cars), and they posted about this vehicle concept:

They just seem to be pretty light on truck knowledge.

They can't sell the "other" Ranger here (that you see in Mexico and other places) because it doesn't meet all FMVSS requirements. Something to do with the A-Pillars, if I have my facts straight.

The current Ranger is basically the same truck that was released in '93. There have been some suspension tweaks (went from Twin I-Beam/Twin Traction Beam to IFS around 1999-2000) and some engine and exterior/interior updates. But I can bolt transfer cases and rear suspension parts from an '09 to my '93. In fact, I upgraded my driveshaft with one from a '97.

Me, I guess I'm in the minority, but I hope they don't mess with the formula too much. Styling is one thing, but the bones of the truck need to be sturdy. My '93 still rides pretty nice with 250,000 miles on the original drive train (and the archaic Twin Traction Beam D35). I want a full-framed pickup that can tow, do work and doesn't wear a skirt (see: Ridgeline). Also, I want better economy then a full size. Don't need a full size, but I want a real truck. Since the new F-150 can get 21 MPG's, I know there's room for improvement in the efficiency department, but I want a truck engine. Not some all aluminum piece that's toast after it overheats once, and something that gives near-max torque at around 1800 RPM's (see the OHV 4.0L for an example), not after revving up to around 2500-3000 RPM.

And something the Ranger community has been clamoring for years to get: a diesel. A nice four cylinder turbo diesel (see: Jeep Liberty) would be perfect. Towing and efficiency aren't just for full size pick up trucks.

The orange color is cool.

The design is a start but it needs work. Lose the hard tonneau cover, redesign the flares and wheels and get some better tires.

Real bumpers wouldn't be too bad.

i agree with john and i don't like the front end, it looks to weak and pissed off. napoleon syndrome or something going on under the hood, although the black looks a lot better its not good enough.

WHY GOD WHY!!!! The ranger has always been sold on the principle that it was a true, capable, work horse truck. It was just in a compact form. That thing looks like if it ran through a mud puddle it would cry. I would rather see the ranger die than see it disgraced like this.

It looks like they asked a ricer what they thought a truck should look like, then took their idea's and magnified it by 10.

That has to be the third ugliest truck i have ever seen.

I am sorry if that sounds rude or over the top. If i offended someone i apologize. It just doesn't make any sense to me why ford would take a truck loved by off roaders everywhere and turn it into a rice boy fantasy.

hahahaha, holy crap i didn't see that post. that is great.

I wonder if it burns when it pees.

It's not that bad. Get rid of the bed cover, side vents and pull the fender flares in a little and it could be a nice truck. The ground clearance doesn't look half bad for being stock. And as strange as it sounds, the hood doesn't look too bad either.

It just looks like it is plastic and sitting in my toy box. I don't know why they wouldn't do what they always have in the past make the ranger look like a small f-150. That worked in the past why wouldn't it work now.
