testing file upload types

can we upload ".stl" files to share 2d printing files?

Apparently not.

@Jim Oaks & @ryan , would it be difficult or a bad thing to allow .stl file uploads? This is the file type used for 3D printing. A member mentioned the idea of having a thread where members could share 3D printing designs for Ranger parts. This seems like a logical move for the 21st century. I just tried uploading one here and it is not currently an acceptable file type.

That may be me. Recently retired from the Marine Corps . We were building up on additive and subtractive manufacturing as a source of supply and were heavily developing capabilities as close to the mechanics (consumer) as possible. I don't have any data to support my position on the site but I think it would be good to have those fabrication categories added to allow people to post their .stl files or 3d scans of parts for others to work off of.

Encouraging 3d scans of older rigs will be helpful as technology gets more consumer. Metal 3d printing is getting there, and there are already services that we can buy additive and subtractive services. 3d printing just needs a place for that community to gather and work together on building depth.

I appreciate you all, you have provided an amazing resource for so many.
