Temp Sensor

What was involved with using the 4.0 cable? I'm assuming it's not a perfect solution since you're still looking for a 2.3 cable.

What all do you need to add cruise? The steeringwheel with buttons, the cab harness and computer deal, the throttle cable, the actuator....is that it?

Does everything just plug in (except the cable of course)?

Well, two problems with it.

1. The female tip which fits over the main throttle cable... it's supposed to clip to the throttle cable and has a hole at the top which is supposed to make it fit snug. On my 4.0 cable it's too long, so the hole at the top doesn't reliably hold it against the main throttle cable. So I have it zip tied now after it had disconnected when the servo closed the throttle quickly a few times.

2. The cable itself clips in to the cable bracket. It is adjustable by a clip which goes into some grooves. For the 2.3 there wasn't a groove anywhere close, so I had to make my own groove, which worked out well enough.

Interesting. I might have to pull my Exploder up next to the Ranger and stare closely at the two systems. Might be worth grabbing the parts off a different Ranger now that I know you made it work.

I did a post about this a while ago... http://www.therangerstation.com/forums/showpost.php?p=93479&postcount=16

It is a plug and play affair provided you get all the parts. You'll have to remove the dashboard which sounds like more work than it necessarily is. The steering column is very easy with the dashboard out.

Yeah, it works well on level ground. On a hill in 5th gear... well, I give it a little help by accelerating before the hill and giving it a head start. Otherwise, the cruise "reacts" to the lower speed and can't get 5th to respond enough and opens up the throttle all the way. Of course, you could just go with 4th and you don't have any problems at all.

Yeah, I don't generally bother with 5th unless I'm on level ground. Below 70 it doesn't make any real fuel difference anyway. I'd like to switch to 4.10's (3.45 now) - might use 5th a bit more after that.

If you get a chance, would you want to edit that write-up a bit to match the tech article submission guidelines and take a few quick photos? That would definitely be worth saving in the tech pages of this site.

Sure, I actually took photos while doing the process so I should have a few somewhere...

I am planning on getting a new (new to me) Ranger here soon. If it doesn't have cruise then I guess I know my first mod.lol.

Plumcrazy, back to the original question. Are you sure you grabbed the correct sensor? I read (just forgot where, but not this forum) that when people grab the sensor from the HVAC, it will show lower temperatures.

I have two sensors, they both have the blue/white and blue/yellew wires that match the th OHC wires. I grabbed the sensor that was on the core support, behind the headlight. Today it started to read correctly :icon_confused: It would change a couple degrees while I was driving around, so I don't know whats going on with it, it seems to be fine now.

I know my connections are good because I soldered and heatshrinked all of them. It is reading right now, I think it just took a little bit of time for the OHC to realize that the speed sensor was hooked up.

Speed sensor or not, it should still work. I have no Speed sensor hooked up and mine works fine (except for when I am stopped at a light for too long).

I didn't hook up the speed sensor for fear that I may mess around something.
