Tell me about your state.

You must be talking about the people from the sourthern part of the state.
Drive on I-71 sometime.Either they are flying to get out of Cleveland or flying to get out of Columbus. It a fricken race track.Drafting and all.
IDK about the license plate thing.NY is the same way.

I drive 71 all the time, I live up in the Columbus area. I gues i am just unlucky i always get caught behind the jerk who ants to go 55 in the right hand lane.

Ya know, if cheap is your criteria, you might look over the Ozarks. Southern Missouri and Northern Arkansas. The economy sucks but it is beautiful country and land is cheap.

Thought about Kentucky?
I live in Louisville...won't get crap over guns or vehicles here. Fort Knox isn't too far away.
Just don't have any real kickass wheeling places in the immediate area.

out where i live in ny is nice, plenty to do, places to go. lots of outdoors. but the government sucks for ny state.

Roger that.Great place to grow up,just no work,Unless you want to live in NYC.Taxes suck period

i personally would stay out of jersey, cost of living is high, taxes are high, its very hard to get a carry permit, there are very few places to ride your atv and go off-roading without getting hassled

based on what your looking for, i don't thunk you would be happy here in jersey( im leaving in a year or so)

x2, jersey is the worst state in the country on lifted trucks and things of that sort

yeah, $1800 in taxes on a $55,000 dollar house. most of that goes to highway workers to buy them new, more comfortable shovels to lean on. lol. and good jobs are rare, unless you know someone.:annoyed:

The hot part is the one thing preventing Texas from moving higher up on the list. The private property issue is a concer as well. I do not want to have to drive a long distance to be on the trails. I would prefer to buy land that butts up against some.

KY is on the list since we found out how cheap the land there is.

I did not think about the Ozarks. It is quite pretty out there.

West is dry heat- doesn't feel near as bad as a humid Georgia day, I guarantee that! It gets butt ugly cold in the panhandle if you like the cold...

I would like to be some where I will need a jacket. I have a nice one I do not get to use that often. Are there any good drag strips in Texas? If so where are they located? Is there good riding near them? I would like to raise my son near a race track and in a county with high school rodeo.

having lived in Texas Ill tell you where the good drag strips are.

along all the highways, theres a parallel highway on each side called an access road with limited entry and exits. these are the drag strips.

Oh yeah. We had those where I grew up as well. Too bad all the people mivng in there ruined it.

Houston and San Antonio have NHRA drag strips. Houston has a super speedway. Marble Falls has the Southern Drag Boat Association and the liquid quarter mile. I might live in Marble Falls. You can have Houston or SA.

Dry heat? 114* is freaking HOT! Dry heat or no. I love the desert in the winter. Beautiful. You can have my share in the summer though!

Aren't there some good tracks in ALaska as well? What about rodeo, do you all have that up there?

These are the sates that seem to be standing out right now. This is not in order of preference. These are the ones that I think I have narrowed it down to. One question that I have that may end up being a deal breaker has to do with the trail systems. I want to live in a state that has a real nice back country trial system. I want to be able to spend several days or a week exploring them and not pass through the same area twice. I would like to be able to do this on an ATV, in a truck, and on horse back. So, here is the first list draft.

1. Oregon
2. Washington
3. Idaho
4. Utah
5. South Dakota
6. North Dakota
7. Montana
8. Oklahoma
9. Kentucky
10. Texas
11. Colorado
12. Kansas
13. Alaska is honorable mention because I am still trying to talk my wife into it.

Now, I know you all have provided great information. But now I ask to get more detailed as we are trying to narrow down out options. The trail system, cost of land, and employment are going to be deterring factors.
