Don't assume anything yet. The valve cover leak on bank 2 is the reason you have no sludge bildup in there. It all leaked out and cooked on your exhaust manifold! Continue the teardown taking note which cylinders looked "clean" due to coolant washdown. The star socket you refered to is really called TORX and it's a big one, t-55 or t-60. Someone else with a fresh memory of the size chime in for her.

Ims orry, i got lost were you referring to the torx bit for the heads? I thought it was torx/hex? It should be a 13mm if its both.
