I have read around and talked to some folks and everyone is saying the fm146 and m5od are pretty much junk. im thinking keep the fm146 and putting the 4.0l clutch in. i wanna know cause i am rebuilding a 4.0 and need a tranny>>> maybe this guy they call bird can help, thanks yall.

The fm146 is junk but the M5OD is a very good and strong transmission. If you're putting in a 4.0, definitely put an M5OD in. The fm146 won't last a week, but the m5od will last you years.

agree with exbass! the fm146 is no good, especially behind a 4.0 but the m5od is a good transmission.

I've only blown 1 M5R1.... They are tough :)

The 4.0 clutch/flywheel will not fit the mitsu bell.

The 4.0 clutch and flywheel are larger, You can use the 2.9 clutch and flywheel on the 4.0 and then you can use the mitsu trans. Or you can use the 4.0 clutch and flywheel on the 2.9 and then use an M5od.

Since when? Its the same bellhousing.

They never used a removeable housing on a 4.0:thefinger: so how can it be the same? The bell housing PATTERN is the same.
Yeah it will fit you just have to use the 4.0 starter.
I screwed up, I'll admit it.

i blew my tranny (M5OD) at 145k miles because i popped the clutch and busted the output shaft, bought a rebuild and its now at 20k miles and its still running perfect.

hey thanks i need to just do the m50d i want to keep the cruise control???

You can.

Cruise has nothing to do w/ the trans. Its all in the motor bay!

on my truck theres a sensor on the speedometer cable, right on the t-case. im not sure exactly how long they used that setup though...

Thats for the speed sensor. It has to do w/ the speedo. The cruise is all vacum controled.
