I have a 98' ford ranger. I keep running these two codes, System Lean on Bank 1, and System Lean on Bank 2. Im not sure on what could cause this, except for a leaky manifold or bad o2 sensors. is there anything else that I should check?

I've seen a plugged fuel filter do it too.

I vote intake gasket leak, as thats what mine and 3 others I've fixed were. The gasket between the lower intake manifold and the fuel rail lets go.

Weak fuel pump, clogged filter, intake gaskets, all of the above. The dealer can pinpoint it for you if you want to up the bucks. shady

ok, well before i got the system lean codes, i replaced my pcv valve, replaced the spark plugs, spark plug wires, and cleaned the MAF sensor. im thinking ab out getting some sealent and spray it on.... any other suggestions?

im not sure what you mean by spray sealant...what for?

i would start by checking fr vacuum leaks since thats free and theres a very good chance thats what it is.

its also possible to damaged the MAF when you cleaned it.

The Codes were already running on it before i cleaned my MAF sensor

Fuel filter, Fuel injection cleaner.

reseal the injector rail and the upper intake. the 4.0 ohv engines like to soak the upper intake gaskets with oil causing the gasket to swell. when you buy the gaskets go the the ford dealer and get the parts. the aftermarket gasket for the upper intake is paper, but it should be a couple rubber o-ring gaskets. total price for the parts is around $30.

Lan codes

My '95 is producing the sames codes and idling high-both indicative of a vaccum leak. I have traced it to the spot where the tube from the EGR valve enters the upper plenum. I've never had this apart in the 206k miles and have been unable to find information as to what is used to seal the joint where the EGR tube meets the intake.

Enlighten me please gentlemen.

Thanks, Zonker
