Syncro Alignment Tool for 94 Ranger "California" model

No way to change the timing on these trucks without modifing things. The cam sensor doesn't affect it.A chip will change things a little, our Jet chip increase about a degree at 3900,not enough to warrent the cost I didn't think

Okay. That sticker under the hood makes it seem like adjustment is possible with the directions it gives us. So if the timing is off then I'm basically out of luck?

So, if the base timing is off with the spout jumper out is it safe to say that the computer has a problem or would it be mechanical in nature? I'm going to be replacing my engine soon and would like to know a lot more about this end of the tune for my truck. I just don't find any info out there, short of buying a Helm guide on wether you can affect the timing at all on this system. I checked it last night and it seems to be off at idle.

30* but I'm not sure what side I should be checking...Exhaust or intake plug on #1. I can't find the procedures in my book or here. I've never had cause to check it in the past and this 8 plug setup is rather unique. If it's possible that someone has the factory manual and can lay out the steps. I need to get the factory from Helm or eBay.

Its on the intake side,if you want to pm me,I can burn you a CD repair manual.

Okay this changed from doing the timing belt and using this tool to replacing my engine an putting my synchronizer in a new engine and using the tool...so here is what I'm getting from the manual. I checked the position of the camshaft sensor plug on the synchronizer (my old engine presently in my truck) to be at about a 4 o'clock postion. This is where it has been from the factory. I've never moved it (original owner). So, to the Ford techs out there..see if my drawing with the tool on top of it makes sense according to step #3 in my book. Let me know if I'm off here. The part where it says the base is to be parallel to the crankshaft center line is somewhat vauge. I think the author means the base of the tool.

doesn't really matter with the center line. just get it close to stock location so the pigtail can plug in. the important thing is getting the vane aligned to the bowl so it passes through the sensor where it's supposed to.. The tool i found online was a pos, and very inaccurate as far as getting it in an exact spot. hopefully yours works better. But i haven't had any troubles from mine. I had issues with one from napa that came apart. I bought i because my stock one was totally loose. I think it was actually what caused my oil pump to stop working costing me a motor. so while you're in there you might want to take it out and check it for slop. And if you need a new one don't go to napa, also be sure to get the sensor secured tightly to the synchronizer. Good luck. and let me know if you've got any other questions.

Thanks Bryan. I'm sure I'll have some questions in the days to come. Who did you get the synchronizer assembly from after you took the other one back to napa?

After pulling from several sources and from talking with you guys I think I'll have the step by step for this situation for the Cali guys. I'll have to have some of the techs here look at them to get opinions.

I got another one from them under warranty. But it seems like everything i've gotten at napa has to be changed twice before I get a good one. Really I don't know where to get good parts anymore. they're all crap. At least at autozone they have your warranty info in the computer, but it's a crap shoot. Maybe try carquest.

Nice. That tool looks alot better than the one I got. And I see you took the hold down bolt out spite the instructions. haha. Thanks for the write-up. that will deffenitely help out some of the unlucky 93-94 ca model 2.3 guys.

Haven't touched the hold down bolt yet. I'm leaving it until the engine is out so I can measure the angle of the plug in relation to the crank center line. I'll use that info for the rest of the steps for replacing it. That hole you are seeing is a bolt hole for the power steering/AC bracket.

Oh, haha. Just kidding then. Did you get the crank pulley off yet?

Question

How did this work out?

Question:

If the timing belt breaks, after aligning cam and crank, is there a way to align the Aux sprocket? I see a mark on the gear but not on the inside cover.

Or since it broke, do I have to take cam sensor off and make sure the inside aligns?
