Sway Bar Disconnect

I tried to mount that style sway bar to my 87, and the clamps wouldn't line up with the holes in the frame. After looking at my B2 which has that style I found there should be plates that bolt to the frame, and the clamps bolt to that, but it looks like yours fit as is.

Weird.

The mounting surface isn't quite right and will need leveled since I don't have that crossmember like the Explorer in the JY had.

The holes line up with my '86 parts truck frame too, both it and my '85 are standard cabs.

Mine is a super cab, and you'd have to ask 1badexplorer what the axle and swaybar came out of. That could be the difference.

My BII had plates like that also. Neither my Ranger or an Explorer we pulled one off of for a buddy's truck was though. Might be that they redesigned it sometime between 1991-1993.

Yeah a washer or two under the bracket should allow it to sit flat.

I've had the misalignment issue on two 87 Super cabs, one 2wd, one 4x4, my B2 is an 88. The axle and sway bar are from a 95-97, so maybe.

My axle and sway bar are from a '95. I didn't check what year the Explorer was.

I found a BII in the JY yesterday. It looks like the plates move the sway bar ahead slightly and the rivet I wondered about is not an issue. Front frame looks identical to mine. I think I am going to need the plates/mounts to do it right.

Looks like the holes are already there. One on either side of the rivet and one for the brace near the top of the frame where the frame is boxed.

That one clamp looks bent a good bit..

And that is why I left them.

I am in no particular hurry to wait for a better set to come by. Nice to see what adsm was talking about though.
