I have been using a york compressor for on board air for a few years now. I have had no luck tracking down a left hand suction unit so I have been using the right hand suction units laying down with the suction side on the bottom, not an ideal situation, york doesnt recommend it and it does pass a fair amount of oil even with the "york oil mod" (plugging the oil passage to the suction side). I tore down a spare compressor I had today to see if there is a way to swap it to a left hand suction. It appears to me that the only difference to the compression and suction sides of the cylinder is the suction side has that oil hole in it which is plugged in the mod. The pressure side still has the same boss as the suction side but it isn't drilled. The valve plate looks as it can be spun 180* as does the head if the dowel pins were removed. The only problem remaining is making sure the head cannot move around (the dowel pins keep it from moving). I figured I could countersink two of the holes that hold the head on and use flat socket head screws to center it. Does anyone see anything that would stop me from doing this? Or anything that I have overlooked?

no pics right now, I will try to get some up eventually.

I've got one sitting on the floor right now with the "mod" done but haven't mounted it yet. Are you running the serpentine pulley or a v-belt?

its with a v pulley, its on my 86 2.9
